Headline-maker: Kyle Wilson
Former Boise State players have been making headlines all NFL season long - Titus Young's Hail Mary catch, Jeron Johnson's blocked fumble touchdown, Doug Martin's backfield fiefdom - almost all of them for good reasons. Kyle Wilson has a unique opportunity to continue that trend.
With the loss of All-Pro corner Darrelle Revis to a torn ACL, the Jets have promoted Kyle Wilson into the starting lineup and anointed him "Revis' replacement" (although to be technical about it, Antonio Cromartie will be replacing Revis as the team's shutdown corner and Wilson would then be replacing Cromartie). The former Boise State superstar is now squarely under the microscpoe, which in the case of the New York media is a Hubble one.
How did he fare in Week One as Replacement Revis? He didn't make any huge mistakes. The San Francisco 49ers beat the Jets on the ground and by waiting for Santonio Holmes to throw fumbles into their laps. They didn't need to pick on Wilson too much, not that a small sample size will keep the New York media from being judge-y.
Elsewhere ...
- Rams wide receiver Austin Pettis caught his first pass of the season, a 17-yarder in St. Louis' win over the Seahawks. The Rams play Daryn Colledge's undefeated Cardinals (and Nate Potter's Cardinals) in the Thursday night game this week.
- Tampa Bay running back Doug Martin had his lowest output of the season with 33 yards on 8 carries in TB's loss to the Redskins.
- Billy Winn (Cleveland), Quintin Mikell (St. Louis), Daryn Colledge (Arizona), and Ryan Clady (Broncos), and Kyle Wilson (Jets) all got the start for their respective teams.
- Kellen Moore was inactive and the Lions lose. If it happens once, it's a coincidence. Four times, it's a trend.
