Hey
As long as word gets out there, that’s all that matters right? I’m kind of excited about this… I know BYU isn’t that great, but a consistent competition against what may end up being an AQ team would definitely boost our strength of schedule, as long as BYU doesn’t fall into a slump once they’re in the Big 12 (if they do go to the Big12 that is).

BYWho ?
Well this is a “bute”, 12 years !, Why not just clause it that to go beyond 4 years - both sides - if having at least a 7 game win the year prior - then we extend the game for 2 years more years - at a time? BYU has been dwindling for the last 3 years - So what if the become an Idaho, SJSU or New Mexico St. in 4 years ?? Once Again BSU loses control of its own Destiny = Either that OR there is a Conference move that includes BSU/BYU into 1 conference ??
by Roj on Sep 29, 2025 6:47 AM PDT up reply actions
Not sure if I agree with that
BYU will never be an Idaho, they have great recruiting classes. 36th for 2012. Note that BSU is 43rd which is AWESOME.
BYU also seems to carry a perception that they’re always going to be a strong team even though we all know they’re pretty mediocre. I guess it comes with their national title and heisman in ’84.
We’re going to love having away games that close to Boise every year!

That's what I'm saying
So what if they’re not a powerhouse, they’re better than Tulsa or Toledo… at least most years haha. The trip is a breeze, my brother lives down in Ogden and it takes him right around 4 hours give or take to cruise up here or back. I’d be more prone to make that trip than one to Moscow to play the Vandulls, that’s for sure.

Dreamland
Boise’s cfb program has repeatedly failured to mount a serious BCS skill level Knowledge base. We already lost out on 1 BCS game to Ohio St a couple of years back. POINTSPREADS and Points scored - although said not to be recognized to the BCS, yet 2/3 of it is human related. WHAT Happened to our trick Plays and 60+ point games anyway. Keep on believing Boise St. doesnt need style points. Look at who we play from UGA thru this year, This isnt NC material by far. All that is certain is this years schedule proves Boise wants a Heisman tropy to display WAY more than a BCS and SUPER way more than a NC trophy. AND we have a lack of academics that continues Boise as a “real” school. Boise is great but we ain BCS’n just because someone thinks we are superior. AS a Boise Fan I am sick and tired of Boise NEVER being in control of its own fate, this year, as a 45 year fan - I wanna see BSU Take control, score 7 to 10 bonus points - per game = Then Prove to me I am wrong !

For being a fan you don't seem very happy about the team
We’re ranked #4 in the country, enjoy it buddy. Subscribe to Pete’s theory that we can’t control the system, we can only control the win loss column and you’ll enjoy the game. If we get screwed we get screwed. One day we’ll have a playoff and all will be right in the world

Pete always stops at a 5 TD lead.
Always. 34-0, that’s what it was. I don’t know how much more pedal you want.

12 Years?
I’m sure there are plenty of reasons why this might make a lot of sense but I’m not too excited about this. What was wrong with the 4 year deal? With the speed at which the college football landscape is changing why would you commit to playing one team for so long? What happens if this winds up hurting our SOS for some unforeseeable reason? Now we’ve got to endure 12 years of this? It’s not like BYU is OU or Texas. The guys on KTIK sounded excited about this but I’m not.

It's like they said
As soon as Boise and or BYU moves to the Big12 (or another conference, who knows what’ll happen or where they’ll end up) they’ll have to rewrite all the paperwork. The thing I like about this is I’m sure it’ll be a lot harder for them to just buy out of it if they don’t want to play us, you know, like some teams have done in the past…

IF they move
It would be cool to move to an AQ conference but I’m not holding my breath and I’ll believe it when I see it. I wouldn’t have a problem if BYU decided to buy out of it. Let ‘em for all I care. I’d rather play anyone in the PAC 12, BIG 12, BIG 10, or SEC over BYU.

They might know something we don't know.
With the speed at which the college football landscape is changing why would you commit to playing one team for so long?
I’d heard from “unnamed sources,” such as they are, that this deal had been being considered and that the changing landscape, BYU’s non-BCS status, and some television rights issues were keeping the university from wanting to take them up on it. So either they know something we don’t know, they decided to settle, or my source is full of bw. Take your pick.

I like it, see reasons below
BYU/BSU have aligned their interest and if there is some fire behind Jon Wilner’s article re: Big 12 and interest in Boise St, then both schools can point to this agreement as a willingness to work together in regards to potential regional partners in the Big 12.
BYU has a contract with ESPN, we have discussed ad nauseam our dislike of the MWC TV deal around here, this guarantees another ESPN National TV game every year.
Another regional rivalry is a good thing from both schools perspective and it takes another game off the schedule that we could otherwise be playing the Vandals (Do.Not.Want).
If the super conference era occurs, we will have willing partner to present as a package deal. Boise does not have the TV sets that the possible super conferences are looking for, but Boise and SLC do (2 MM+).

To add:
A series like this could open up some recruiting opportunities for BSU in Utah. There isn’t a ton of talent in that state but it sure won’t hurt to be able to tell a kid he gets to play for a BCS bowl contender while still playing in front of his family a few times in his career.
Also, I think BSUbluNorange mentioned it. But BYU is overrated on a yearly basis. There is always a lot of hype which leads to a game that is easier than the rankings and the pundits suggest. Its all about perception…

Pretty much all of my family (on my dad’s side) live around Salt Lake City area.. it will be nice to talk smack to them.. plus I don’t like BYU (or Utah).. will be nice to see Boise State beat them up

its good
It lets the Big 12 know that hey, if one of us joins, itd be easier to bring the other along because we already have a series with the other. Not to mention, BYU has proven to be a good 8-10 win team every year, with the exception of last and most likely this… but I am so damn excited to go to Provo every year and beat the piss out of BYU and rub it in the face of all my fellow parishioners that think the sun rises and sets on Y Mountain….. Go Broncos

I like it
Even in a bad year, BYU is not going to be worse than your average mid-major team. Heck, they don’t look that good this year, and they still beat a terrible Ole Miss on the road. Also, unlike a MAC or C-USA team, fans can actually travel from Boise to Provo (or vice versa). BYU would be much more of a rival than CSU or New Mexico will.

….it appears our only true rivalry is dying. Who knows? Maybe the Mormon folks just south of us can spark a new regional rivalry for BSU.

BYU is a perfect rival
They have a presence in Boise so we’ll be able to mock them as much as we did dUI. I will never forget when BYU came up for a bball game ranked #20 and we took them down. Lots of broken hearted BYU fans in the stands.

I was at the football game against BYU
It got heated amongst fans. At one point there were enough Cougar fans there that you could hear “BYU” being chanted in Bronco Stadium. Made me sick. Great game though. When Payne missed that field goal the Broncos went nuts!

BYU coach happy about deal, w/ or w/out B12 invite
BYU’s coach on the ESPN coaches show last night said this agreement is good for BYU, and implied that he felt that way with or without a BigXII invite. He also said that once an ‘invite’ is extended and accepted, all of these agreements have a way of working themselves out.

Smart move money wise
A better football game (and better for rankings) but the same money as a Vandal game. Works for me. Kind of puts to flight all those notions that BYU bailed from the MWC partly because Boise State was coming in :)
I will root for Alabama or Ohio State when they play the Chinese...maybe.

Rivals...
What other team have we played consistently for the past 12 years? In the WAC we were everyone’s rival, and really had none. This is not going to be Ohio State v Michigan, but it is a step in the right direction. Plus I will never forget taking my infant daughter to Lavell Edwards Stadium and getting there 5 minutes late and already being up 14 on the Cougs in Provo; Great scheduling move! Now we just need to extend the Michigan State Deal to 12! BYU and MSU would be much better on our schedule than Tulsa and Toledo!

The conference realignement thing is crazy...
If this deal went down earlier I would have suspect BYU was just trying to get a team scheduled that was almost like a conference game. BYU would only have to worry about 10-11 more teams to schedule for the next decade. Like most conferences, you really only need to schedule 3-4 games a year, the rest is done by the conferences. I wonder if BYU is having scheduling issues already? I do see some good things coming out of this arrangement.
But with all the realignment talk now, who knows. I would just like the jockeying to be over with. I can’t wait for the dust to settle.
