Numerical Roster Countdown: Day 29, Lee Hightower

The first Fall Camp is in the books and we're in the 20s now on the countdown. I thought this day would never come.

We've got 29 days until kickoff...so today we'll be highlighting #29 on the Boise State roster—Lee Hightower

#29, Lee Hightower, True Freshman, CB

Stats

Height: 6'1"

Weight: 170 lbs.

High School: Loyola High School, Inglewood, CA

How'd he get to The Blue™?

Hightower was a surprising late addition to the Broncos' 2011 recruiting class after he de-committed from Pennsylvania and proved the old adage "You can always use another cornerback". Hightower was a two-year letter winner at Loyola and was named second-team All-Serra League as a senior after recording 40 tackles, 18 pass break-ups, 2 forced fumbles and an interception. Hightower's senior campaign also earned him a slot on the Daily News All-Star team. As a junior, Hightower recorded 50 tackles, 12 pass break-ups and 4 forced fumbles. Scout.com only rated Hightower a 2-star recruit, but a look at his list of suitors tells a different story—he received offers from Washington, Air Force, San Diego State, and San José State.

2011 prospectus

I'm so sure that Hightower will redshirt this year, I'm making him my "Lock of the Week".

That doesn't mean, however, that we can't talk about his future in the Bronco defensive secondary. Jerrell Gavins looks to be the 2011 starter at one corner spot and as you know, he'll be gone next year when Hightower is coming off his redshirt season. Jamar Taylor will be a senior in 2012, so he's also somewhat a short-timer. By 2013 we'll have two brand new corners starting for the team and dollars to donuts one of them will be Marcus Rios. In fact, the 4-star 2012 commit could come in and play as a true frosh next year, so I'm tempted to pencil him in to Gavins' vacated spot. Of course, Ebo Makinde, Bryan Douglas, Eric Agbaroji, or Hightower could certainly step up and make Rios take a redshirt, but we'll just have to see how things shake out. My gut says that outside dime packages, we won't get a chance to see Hightower, or even 2012 verbals Donte Deayon or Hightower's Loyola teammate Chaz Anderson until 2013. At that point, we're going to have some impressive depth at the corner positions which is something that we currently have, quite frankly, but we're just lacking a wealth of experience. If Taylor and Gavins can impart their wisdom on these youngsters and instill some of their work ethic, we're going to have an embarrassment of talent at the positions in short order. Hightower will get his chance to shine...he'll just have to wait a little while.

Completely made up fact

Hightower received his first scholarship offer, that of the academic variety, while he was attending kindergarten. Prep school administrators were extremely impressed with two thesis papers that the 5-year old Hightower penned (crayoned). The titles of the two theses were: "Nap time: Why this oppressive institution must be abolished", and "Cooties—girls have'em: An epidemiological survey"
