I believe all but one in the photograph eventually became a casualty.

The pharmacist's mate, the guy on the far left. His son wrote a book: Flags of Our Fathers
I’m told one of them died about 3 days after the photo, never making it off the island. The others died within 4-5 years (alcoholism was a factor, as was fame and unexpected publicity for a couple of them.)
