From the top
QB Tanner Mangum
6-3, 182, Eagle HS (Idaho)
The Broncos offered Mangum a full-ride scholarship two weeks into his junior season, and now everybody's doing it. BYU, Utah, Arkansas, and Oregon have since jumped feet first into the Mangum sweepstakes. Dibs?
Mangum is clearly the best QB in Idaho and one of the best in the West. He missed almost all of his junior year due to a broken collarbone, and still everyone wants him. He projects similarly to recent Bronco QB recruits Jimmy Laughrea and Joe Southwick - a traditional drop-back passer who can make plays with his feet when he has to. I call it "Controlled Jared Zabransky." Bronco coaches probably have another name for it.
Mangum's top college choices are Boise State and BYU, for what that's worth. If he does choose Boise State, fans will have to wait several years before they see him on the field. Mangum plans on taking a two-year LDS mission after high school.
QB Ford Childress
6-5, 210, Kincaid HS (Texas)
Even if the Broncos do get a commit from Tanner Mangum, they might want to add another QB to the 2012 class since Mangum's LDS mission will mess up their QB timeline. Childress is one to consider. He TCU, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, and others.
QB Jeff Lindquist
6-3, 225, Mercer Island (Wash.)
Lindquist passes for nearly 2,000 yards and rushed for over 1,000 last year while being named First-Team all KingCo, which is a pretty big deal in Seattle. Teams that have offered Lindquist include Washington and Washington State.
OT Ellis McCarthy
6-5, 295, Monrovia HS (Calif.)
UCLA has offered the big OT, and USC and Tennessee are hot after him, too.
DE James McFarland
6-2, 215, West Monroe (Louisiana)
McFarland has interest from a host of SEC schools. His playmaking ability (and size) might make him switch to linebacker at the next level.
S Austin Lee
6-0, 185, Alta HS (Utah)
Lee's list of suitors contains virtually every Pac-12 school and most WAC and MWC schools, and for good reason. Lee was a first-team All-State safety last year and one of the best prospects at his position.
Other notable recruits:
- LB Kendall Ehrlich, 6-1, 195, Pearland HS (Texas): Boise State has offered Ehrlich a scholarship.
- OG Doug Francis, 6-3, 309, Rogue River HS (Ore.)
- S Kenny Iloka, 6-1, 195, Kempner HS (Texas): Hey, another Iloka!
