What Boise State coaches hope to learn with visits to Alabama, Utah, and others

The Boise State coaching staff is going road tripping next week for their annual strategy swap with coaches from around the country. This year's headliner: Alabama. Five Bronco coaches, including OC Brent Pease and DC Pete Kwiatkowski, will visit with Nick Saban and Co. and learn things like power football, SEC speed, and how to make Doug Martin into a Heisman Trophy finalist.

"I want to see how they used their Heisman Trophy back (Mark Ingram)," Pease said.

Pease's focus on the running game could mean big things for backs like Martin, D.J. Harper, and Jay Ajayi. Kwiatkowski's syllabus includes lessons on red zone defense and defending the no huddle - two areas that the Broncos are already pretty good at and will now be pretty great.

Hit the jump for the rest of the Boise State spring coaching tour.

  • Bob Gregory to Ohio State
  • Marcel Yates to Utah and Utah State
  • Jeff Choate to a Houston event featuring representatives from eight schools

Yates hopes to find out how the Utes and Aggies gameplanned against the Bronco defense, which should be good for some laughs. Also, I guess Utah State doesn't plan on facing the Broncos in the Mountain West any time soon.

Gregory and Choate's secret missions remain a secret.

No word yet on where Coach Pete will end up for his offseason betterment. I'm guessing not Stanford.
