Wake up, Bronco Nation: Boise State football links and things, 12-16-11

Still holding out hope for Jamar Taylor to return for the bowl game

Boise State still won't give a definitive answer on Taylor or Ebo Makinde who injured his hamstring in the TCU game. Nickel Jonathan Brown isn't expected to play due to an "inner ear" illness.

Bill Connelly unveils the MACtion rating to rank bowls' excitability

This is based on how exciting the Toledo/Northern Illinois game was early this year as well as other MAC games. The Las Vegas Bowl comes in at 11 on the scale which does not make me happy. I like boring blowouts. My heart doesn't do well with excitement for Boise State anymore as it's usually not a good thing.

Boise State recruit Nick Patti named Florida 8A Class Football Player of the Year

Patti is one of 8 finalists for the Mr. Football award. Nick will be part of the competition to replace Kellen Moore next fall along with Joe Southwick, Grant Hedrick and Jimmy Laughrea.

Nate Potter's earns consensus All-America honors

Consensus All-American honors means that a player is named to at least 3 of the 5 NCAA recognized teams. Potter is the second Bronco to be consensus since Ryan Clady in 2007. Potter was named to the Sporting News first team, the Football Writers Association of America first team, the Associated Press second team and the Walter Camp second team. He was not named to the American Football Coaches Association team. But he did make the SB Nation All American team, so there's that.

Hawaii has a coaching vacancy if anyone is interested. No, seriously, anyone?

I didn't realize that it was so bad, but apparently only 42 people have submitted their resume including Georgia Tech's WR coach Buzz Preston which led EDSBS to ask a few pertinent question like "Georgia Tech coaches wide receivers?"

Could Craig James' run for senate actually be good for College Football?

This is the argument put forth by Jen Floyd Engel of Fox Sports. Presumably if he was elected, he would not have time to appear on weekly BCS countdown shows and calling Thursday night games. America's loss would be college football's gain. He then presumably would only be on TV for the nightly news and frequent Daily Show appearances (I mean, how great would it be to see Jon Stewart get a chance to skewer Craig James?).

But alas, we here at OBNUG cannot get behind this. If it was just a run for state senate, we could care less. That would be Texas' fault and Texas' problem. If he's elected to the U.S. Senate, he'd be America's problem. We can't get behind doing this to the unsuspecting population that does not follow college football. And while we try to steer clear of politics here on OBNUG, we feel that Craig James transcends parties and is just plain bad. And, yes, I've been using the royal "we" so Drew and/or Kevan may disagree with all of this.
