meant for Boise State
Anyone who uses the song “Knock a Hater Out” on their highlight video gets an automatic offer to play for Boise State in my book.

stud!
This guy is a huge “get” for the Broncos. Getting Ioane last year and then Tuumalo this year should open up a great pipeline of talent from the islands!

Good looking Recruit
I believe we have been getting this level of recruit because of all the ESPN exposure. What is going to happen when we go to the Mountain West next year and don’t get any ESPN coverage just like Utah, BYU and TCU?

We will get picked up by the next AQ conference looking to expand? Or go independent…

Utah, BYU, and TCU is ahead of us in recruiting every year too
Despite the rare appearance on ESPN. The Boise State coaches are just so good at developing talent.

This guy looks great.
But I just read that the new 3 star kicker we recuited out of Cali, Matt Goudis, backed out of his verbal and switched to Michigan. He is a great kicker and highly touted recruit and his loss has to be a blow to our recruiting efforts.

True...but like many have said, if we're going to get a de-commit I'd rather it be a kicker.

Are kickers somehow less important to the team?
I would think it would harder to fill in for a kicker than it would be for some other positions.
I guess on 4th down we could always line up like we are going for it and then have Kellen be our stand in punter. And we can just plan on never being in a position again where we will need a field goal.
by Jay Weston on Dec 26, 2025 8:28 AM PST up reply actions
Or just let Kellen throw it all 4 downs....
I once meet Coach Pete and shook his hand. I knew at that very moment, I had touched God.

Kickers are not less important
But considering our kickers walk-on almost every year, it must be an easier position to replace. It’s a blow losing Goudis, but I for one am not worried about it.

Yeah, not less important per se
Just in higher quantity and easier to get. Much tougher to get a blue chip QB who actually develops than it is to get kicker who can perform for example. In that regard, this was not a serious blow to our recruiting.

What they said...
The kicker isn’t on the field every down and there are a lot of guys who can come in here and boot the ball a long way. I say the most important thing to have in a kicker is icewater in the veins and able to have a short memory.
I’m totally bummed we missed out on Goudis, but if I’m being honest with myself, I’d have been much more crushed if someone like a Jay Ajayi or Jeff Worthy de-committed. We’ve got Harman, Elkin and Pavel and I think they can be molded…at least in the short term.

other kickers, potential impact of Brotzman situation on Goudis' de-commit
I’m sure there are still some very good kickers who haven’t committed whom BSU could go after, either as a scholly player or walk-on with the prospect of gaining a scholarship as did Brotzman. I don’t think any of the current Bronco placekickers can get the job done next year.
I wonder if the nastiness which Brotzman endured after the Nevda game had anything to do with Goudis looking elsewhere. He probably wasn’t looking forward to getting death threats because of a missed field goal or two. Not that this doesn’t happen elsewhere, but unfortunately the Brotzman situation received an incredible amount of national publicity. Hell, Goudis’ parents may have nixed BSU after seeing what Brotzman endured. If he were my son, I’d certainly have second thoughts about him stepping into all that.

I decry the morons who harassed the Brotzman's, but if Goudis' son misses a BCS/NCS kick at Michigan, they'll find out
there are idiots everywhere. I happen to believe Bronco Nation has fewer, but it ain’t trail mix w/o some nuts. I remember that when I read the letters from Nevada fans who expressed chagrin at the antics of some of their fans.

The kicking game next year is a big story.
I know some don’t even consider it part of ‘real’ football, but this could easily bite us on the (bw). That kid going to Michigan was bad news. Brotzman’s treatment did play into it, no doubt. I will be looking at the PK, and the wideouts next spring. ‘Who cares about kickers?’ We sould ALL care about the kickers, seasons can be saved/ended by those guys. This is a big deal.

I would never claim that kickers don't matter...
I do think they are a tad easier plug ‘n play than a wide receiver, defensive lineman, or quarterback, however. We have two guys currently on the roster who can battle it out and with a few tweaks might be very good kickers for us. I think that Harman actually has a bit more leg than Brotzman, but he’ll probably need to tune up his accuracy.

Did Brotzman's treatment play into it?
I don’t think so, but it’s possible if the kid and his parents are naive enough.
Kyle’s treatment, while very public and bitter, is not any worse and actually less vehement than other kickers would face at bigger programs with more intense rivalries or equal stakes in a big game.
SEC fans would go nuts if what happened to Brotz happened to one of their kickers. FSU fans HAVE gone far uglier than we witnessed against Kyle.
All Kyle’s treatment really means is that Boise St. has reached a level where they are in big enough games with crucial enough moments to drive people rooting and/or betting on them up the wall for failing in what they perceive to be “easy”.
That doesn’t make it right in the least but it’s the natural course of things. As the team gets better, the expectations get bigger. As the expectations get bigger, the stakes get higher. As the team continues to leap the hurdles and get closer to paydirt, the fanbase and locker room become a pressure cooker of promise and purgatory…people lose their heads.
Get ready for more people, the circus has begun and the opposite reactions of the VT win and Kyle’s miss was just the opening act.
