Boise State's season is underway and that means that the senior seasons of next year's Broncos are also in full swing. Each weekend from now until the end of the high school season, I'll be checking in on some of the Broncos' 2011 recruits to see how they're faring. After the jump, we'll drop in on a few of the Bronco verbals (non-binding till February, yadda-yadda).
Last week I reported that RB commit Jay Ajayi of Frisco Liberty High School (TX) appeared to have an ankle injury that might slow him down. Ajayi left last week's contest in the 3rd quarter after amassing 294 rushing yards and 5 TDs and returned to the sidelines on crutches. Well...it turns out that Jay Ajayi isn't really human after all as he still managed to play on Friday against Carrollton Creekview and only rushed for 154 yards and 3 TDs in the win. Yet again, Ajayi's damage was done in just 2 quarters of play—as it has been in all but 2 games on the year—and now has 1,450 yards and 26 TDs in 7 contests for the undefeated Redhawks. If you're a fan of having your mind blown, check out this compilation of Ajayi's mid-season highlights below.
Rocklin High School (CA) QB commit Jimmy Laughrea threw for 228 yards and 3 TDs in Friday night's loss to Roseville. Unfortunately, Laughrea also threw 2 picks in the contest (including an ill-timed 4th quarter INT), but now has 1,607 yards and 13 passing TDs on the year and another 230 yards and 5 TDs on the ground.
Though his stats are routinely updated a week late, I can tell you that Cosumnes Oaks (CA) D-line commit Robert Ash had 13 tackles and 4 sacks against El Dorado last Friday, bringing his season total (as of last week) to 53 tackles, 9 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and a blocked field goal.
On Friday night, Safety commit Taylor Loffler of Kelowna (BC) returned a kickoff 62 yards for a score, delivered a 20-yard scoring strike, ran in another 16 yards TD, returned a punt 45 yards for a score and then tossed another 36 yard TD. On the season, Loffler has passed for 17 TDs against just 2 interceptions while rushing for 13 more and catching another pass for a score. Loffler has also returned 2 punts for and 4 kickoffs for scores.
CB commit Eric Agbaroji (TX) earned player of the week honors for his outing for Midlothian on Friday night. Agbaroji recorded 4 tackles, 3 pass breakups, and an INT in the team's win against Cedar Hill.
DT commit Jeff Worthy of Whittier Christian (CA) continues his comeback from a knee injury that forced him to sit the first 3 games of the season. Despite Worthy's injury, he's still managed to register 19 tackles in the 3 games since his return (no stats have been recorded from Friday night's game). Whittier Christian is 6-1 on the year.
