The atomic clock actually says that we have just 58 days until the Ducks hit the blue turf (hard).
So, today we'll continue our countdown by briefly highlighting the Bronco player with the jersey number that corresponds with the number of days remaining till the opener. Sorry there isn't a more clear and concise way to explain that.
And we're off...
#58 Dave Wilson, LB
The Wilson twins are likely used to being the best Wilsons on any teams they've ever played on. This is currently not the case for the identical linebacking duo from Powell, Wyoming as they have to play second-surname-fiddle to NFL-bound Kyle Wilson for one more season. Starting in 2010, all should be right with the world again for the stocky pair...but they're already contributing in less headline-grabbing ways.
Dave Wilson might have grabbed every headline as a senior at Powell High School if it hadn't been for that pesky brother of his. Dave was an All-Conference and All-State pick in his final prep season, tallying 153 tackles (24 for loss), 4 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 2 pass breakups, a blocked kick, an interception and a partridge in a pair tree. He was voted a member of the Casper Star Tribune's Super 25 team and was named Defensive MVP to boot. His senior season also saw him win the Lee Blocking award; which could be an award for excellence in blocking or named after a guy named Lee Blocking. After redshirting in 2007 and playing sparingly last year, Dave and his brother will look to make a larger impact in 2009. Neither Dave nor Matt have really cracked the linebacker rotation as of yet, but look firmly entrenched on a Bronco special teams unit that is one of the top in the country. If Dave can make special teams his bread and butter, a larger role may become more evident in due time—and if Dave is "in" you know his bro will be too...sibling rivalry will see to that.
