Countdown Schmountdown: #59

The atomic clock actually says that we have just 59 days until the Ducks hit the blue turf (hard).

So, today we'll continue our countdown by briefly highlighting the Bronco player with the jersey number that corresponds with the number of days remaining till the opener. Sorry there isn't a more clear and concise way to explain that.

And we're off...

#59 Will Lawrence, OG

Safe to say this is not the way Will Lawrence saw his college football career going. Recruited all the way way from Maryland, Lawrence was a defensive line prospect with upside. Three years later, he's an offensive line prospect with a lot of competition around him.

But that's okay. Lawrence will always have that one glorious high school season to tell his grandkids about. As a senior defensive lineman at CH Flowers High, he recorded 90 tackles (72 of which were unassisted), 16 sacks, seven TFLs, two forced fumbles, and a safety. And when high school stats stop impressing the grandkids, Lawrence can pull out the "one tackle versus NMSU and Idaho in 2007" card. (I've played that card before; it's a good card.)

Lawrence did see time last season against NMSU, Idaho and Fresno State, and he does have the size (6'2", 288 pounds) to contribute. So taste that, future grandkids! In fact, he was playing side-by-side with the first team offense in spring ball thanks to a Kevin Sapien injury, and he was described by Scout.com as "a tough run-blocking option at right guard with size, strength, and upside." Ah, upside, the great equalizer.
