Countdown Schmountdown: #42

The atomic clock actually says that we have just 42 days until the Ducks hit the blue turf (hard).

So, today we'll continue our countdown by briefly highlighting the Bronco player with the jersey number that corresponds with the number of days remaining till the opener. Sorry there isn't a more clear and concise way to explain that.

And we're off..

#42 Matt Wilson, LB

It's deja vù all over again.

Matt Wilson has a lot in common with #58 on our countdown; similar build...from the same town....matching DNA. Yes, linebackers Matt and Dave Wilson (way to get creative with the names, Mom and Dad) are as close as close can be. Why they didn't just give them an XXXL jersey with two neckholes is beyond m—and if you think that I basically copied Dave Wilson's bio and switched out his name on today's countdown...you're pretty much right.

Matt Wilson might have grabbed every headline as a senior at Powell High School in Wyoming if it hadn't been for that pesky brother of his. Matt was an All-Conference and All-State pick in his final prep season, tallying 117 tackles (bro had 153), 6 pass break-ups (bro had 2), 2 fumble recoveries (possibly forced by his brother), and a partridge in a pair tree. He was named All-Conference on the school's track and field team as a junior and senior and was a 4-year academic letter winner to boot. After redshirting in 2007 and playing sparingly last year, Matt and his brother will look to make a larger impact in 2009. Neither Matt nor Dave have really cracked the linebacker rotation as of yet, but look firmly entrenched on a Bronco special teams unit that is one of the top in the country. If Matt can make special teams his bread and butter, a larger role may become more evident in due time—and if he's "in" you know his bro will be too...sibling rivalry will see to that.
