Top 26: Everyone's loss is Boise State's gain

The Broncos jumped two places in the national media polls this weekend, but they climbed three spots in our biased Bronco blogger Top 26. Take that, objectivity!

Boise State sits at No. 14, right behind fellow non-BCS baddie Utah. BYU jumped into our Top 10 in a big way, slipping into the No. 7 spot. And our new No. 1 is Oklahoma, proving that we harbor no hard feelings for Bob Stoops and Co. following the Fiesta Bowl.

For more information on our picks, visit the poll's homepage or download the Top 26 pdf. Brian Murphy does the honors of defending his poll below, so don't miss that.

Brian Murphy, Statesman auteur and pizza magnate, provides the reasoning for his weekly poll. Murphy was the only one to choose Alabama as the No. 1 team in the land. Does he know something that the rest of us don't? If so, he's not afraid to reveal all. Read on:

Also considered: Oregon, Michigan State, Wake Forest, Tulsa, Maryland

Dropped out: Wake Forest, Illinois, TCU, Colorado, East Carolina

No. 1: I think Alabama has done more (beating Clemson at a neutral site and Georgia on the road) than Oklahoma has done so far this season.

No. 10: The 1-loss teams are tough to rank. I put USC (No. 10), Georgia (11), Florida (13) and Ohio State (15) as my top 1-loss teams.

No. 14: Just felt the Broncos fit right about here. Tough to know where to place the undefeated non-BCS teams (BYU, Utah, Boise State) with the one-loss power teams (USC, Georgia, Florida, Ohio State).

No. 20-21: Had to keep Wisconsin ahead of Fresno State based on the Badgers' victory two weeks ago.

No. 23-25: All these teams (Connecticut, Northwestern and Ball State) are undefeated, which gave them the edge on Oregon, Michigan State and Wake Forest - all of whom have one loss.
