Boise State basketball

When will the Boise State basketball team win again?

The Boise State men's basketball team is on a bit of a slide - like, an all-of-2012 slide. They have yet to win in the new year and have yet to win a Mountain West Conference game. Their current eight-game losing streak has to end some time. I think. Right? ... Right?

The Broncos have seven games left against MWC teams that have all beat the Broncos already this season. There has to be a win in there somewhere, if only for the fact that it is extremely hard to lose 15 in a row especially since Greg Graham never did that. Here is what's on tap for the Broncos the rest of the way. See if you can spot the win.

  • Saturday, @ Air Force
  • Feb. 15, vs. Colorado State
  • Feb. 18 vs. TCU
  • Feb. 22 @ UNLV
  • Feb. 25 @ Wyoming
  • Feb. 29 vs. San Diego State
  • March 3, @ New Mexico

Making good on the San Diego State blog bet

The Boise State men's basketball team lost a nailbiter to San Diego State on Wednesday night, and in addition to loads of self-worth and money I had riding on the game, there was also the small matter of a blog bet with SDSU blog Aztecs Killing Him. Here now is the payment for that failed wager. It is glorious in its snark.

The case for a new addition to the Big East

Whenever I go on vacation, I always try to make an effort to not stand out as a tourist. After all, nobody likes tourists.

You know who I mean - the dork in San Francisco hanging off of a cable car while sporting a white Alcatraz t-shirt. Or the yokel in New York snapping photos of a giant Justin Bieber billboard in Times Square. Or the guy in Albuquerque not loading up on Sudo at the CVS.

Instead, I like to try to blend in as much as possible. I like to eat where the locals eat. Drink what the locals drink (only more so).

Well, as a guest poster at One Bronco Nation Under God, I can't help but follow that same philosophy. If I'm going to post on a Boise State blog, dangit, I'm going to be a Boise State blogger. To get into character, please excuse me while I pound this Dairy Queen Blizzard (cookie dough, if you must know). Be right back.

Boise State basketball versus San Diego State: Five things you should know

The Boise State basketball team is on the skids and skidding right into a date with No. 17-ranked destiny tomorrow night when the Broncos visit San Diego State (8:15 p.m. MT, CBS Sports Network). Hope for the best (UNLV redux), plan for the worst (losing by 40-burgers).

Tip-off is at 8:15 p.m. MT, and the game is available on your televisions on CBS Sports Network and on your radios at 670 KBOI. To get you ready for roundball Rudy, I've prepared five things to know about tomorrow night's Boise State - San Diego State basketball game-slash-schadenfreude.

1. The Boise State men's basketball team is 0-fer 2012. The Broncos have not won a game since December 31, but at least their last win was a life-affirming takedown of the Idaho Vandals. The closest BSU has come to victory since was an overtime loss last week to No. 15 UNLV.

2. The Broncos have used 11 different starting lineups in 20 games. Typically that means that a team is struggling to find chemistry and a successful mix of players. Or it could mean that Leon Rice has adopted the Boise State offensive line philosophy to starting lineups.

Boise State basketball versus LSU: Five things you should know

Things get real tomorrow night for the Boise State men's basketball team when it travels into SEC country to take on the LSU Tigers. Real exciting, that is. This Bronco team has a very good chance to pull off the upset, according to my irrational love of the team and the lofty expectations I place on everything I adore.

Tip-off is at 6:00 p.m. MT, and you can watch the game on TV if you are lucky enough to have LSU regional cable channel COX Sports. Radio listeners can get the game on 670 KBOI. To get you prepped and ready for your non-football Saturday sports watching, here are five things you need to know about LSU and the Broncos.

1. Former Boise State basketball player Trent Johnson is LSU's head coach. And people don't like him. He lost 14 of his last 15 games last season and was named one of the most overpaid coaches in America by Forbes magazine (HT: Scott Slant). His 2011 season includes a home loss on Thanksgiving Eve to South Alabama.

2. Boise State is the No. 9 team in the country in scoring, averaging nearly 85 points per game. Twenty-three of those points come courtesy of Australian freshman Anthony Drmic (15 ppg) and Igor Hadziomerovic (8 ppg). Throw another shrimp on the barbie, etc.!

Boise State basketball versus Long Beach State: Five things you should know

Photo

The Boise State basketball team gets its first real test of the season (no offense, Utah) with a trip to Long Beach State tonight to face a 49ers squad that has already pulled one of the biggest upsets of the college basketball season. Expect to learn more about the Bronco basketball team tonight than you learned against Colorado Christian.

Tip-off is at 8:00 p.m. MT, and you can listen live on the radio at 670 KBOI. To get you jazzed about the game, here is a preview of what to know about Long Beach State and the Broncos.

1. Long Beach State defeated No. 9 Pittsburgh last week to end Pitt's 58-game non-conference home winning streak. The 49ers followed up that win with an overtime loss at San Diego State, one of the Mountain West's best teams. So the lesson here is that LBSU is pretty good at the basketball.

2. Boise State started last season 6-0 before a home loss to ... Long Beach State. Creepy.

Boise State basketball versus Utah: Five things you should know

Pardon the Boise State football interruption, but there's some basketball news to share. Boise State hosts Utah tonight at Taco Bell Arena. And yes, I mean the real Utah. Not Southern Utah or Eastern Utah or Utah School of Mines. We're talking the real, live Utah Utes of the Pac-12 conference.

Tip-off is at 6:00 p.m. MT, and to get you ready for some Bronco basketball, here is some info on one of BSU's most anticipated games of the year.

1. The game is being broadcast on The Mtn. television channel, which I hear exists in some people's homes. Hooray!

2. Boise State could actually win this game. Utah lost its exhibition opener, 61-60, to Adams State. The Utes bareley beat San Diego Christian College, 58-55, on Monday night in the season opener. Utah has 13 newcomers on its roster.

Boise State basketball preview: Getting to know the schedule

Are you ready for some basketball? Probably not, but Boise State football is on a bye, the basketball team tips off two weeks from today, and we all made a promise to pay  more attention to roundball this year, remember? We pinky swore.

Last week, I previewed the Boise State roster - a new-look, rather Australian bunch of guys who have the potential to mesh into a fun team. Now it's time to take a look at the schedule the Broncos will be meshing against. Check out the best games and projected records after the jump, and feel free to add your predictions in the comments.

Boise State basketball preview: Getting to know the roster

Boise State basketball? What's that doing here?

Believe it or not, the Bronco basketball season begins in a couple weeks. Why basketball bothers happening during football season is beyond me, but it does. So let's put down our Air Force option manuals for a moment and spend some time with Leon Rice and gang. And then right back to the Air Force stuff.

Besides, we like Boise State basketball now, remember? Rice took the Broncos to the postseason last year, and this year's team gets to play a Mountain West schedule that will be leaps and bounds more exciting than forcing fistpumps through San Jose State games. So to preview the Bronco basketball team, I will be bringing you two posts: The first is a roster preview, the second is a schedule preview. There was a third post about fan excitement, but I got too distracted by Bronco football to write it.
