Breaking rumor: WR Jeremy Childs going pro
Posted in Boise State football, Headline on 9 January 2009

Sources say that Boise State junior wide receiver Jeremy Childs might go the way of Ryan Clady and Orlando Scandrick and declare for the NFL Draft.

Boise TV station KBCI Channel 2 was the first to break the news, and there has been no other confirmation yet other than this slight nausea we’ve been feeling all morning. Childs has until January 15 to decide, and he is expected to wait at least until he hears back from the NFL advisory committee. Currently, they are hard at work figuring out how to break the news to Tom Brandstater.

Read on after the jump for more, including what Childs said about the pros a couple months ago. We wish him the best of luck if it’s true.

Comment season: Bowl weekend open thread
Posted in Boise State football, Headline on 20 December 2008

Welcome back, football. We missed you.

Bowl season gets underway this weekend with such fabulous matchups as Navy vs. Wake Forest and Fresno State vs. Colorado State. OK, so maybe “fabulous” isn’t the right word. But it is football, and as hopelessly addicted men and women, we must watch and we must comment.

Feel free to do so on this post as you’re watching some bowl action. You can talk about the Poinsettia Bowl, too, if you want. We’ll be back on Monday to put the finishing touches on P-Bowl previews, so until then, see you in the comments. And go Broncos!

Boise State hopes to be healthy for Poinsettia Bowl
Posted in Boise State football, Headline on 16 December 2008

Several injured Boise State players have had the luxury of resting and healing up over the weeks preceding Tuesday’s Poinsettia Bowl. Good thing, too. The Broncos will need all the healthy bodies they can get.

After the jump, we’ll check the status reports on TE Chris O’Neill, DT Steven Reveles, DE Mike T. Williams, and many others. The Broncos are blessed to have good depth at a lot of key positions, but it never hurts (no pun intended) to have everyone healthy.

In the spirit of objectivity, we’ll take a look at the TCU infirmary report as well … if we can find it. If not, we’ll just make something up.

Greatest season in BSU history? We’ll never know
Posted in Boise State football, Headline on 15 December 2008

Time to put our serious analyzing hats on. What are we to make of the 2008 Boise State football season in the grand scheme of things?

The 2006 Fiesta Bowl team is easy to place - they were undefeated, won their BCS game, and finished No. 5 in the country. The 2004 team fit nicely into a box, too. They were undefeated but lost to Louisville in their bowl game.

The 2008 team? Who knows?

Read on after the jump for a look at how the 2008 squad compares to the rest of Boise State’s best and see what conclusion we come to about what to do with this year’s Broncos.

Those doing the hosing? WAC coaches. As usual.

Avery and Enderle too much for Vandals to handle
Posted in Boise State football, Headline on 17 November 2008

The Vandal-Bronco game did not disappoint, unless you were a Vandal fan.

In addition to great performances by Avery, Moore, Wilson, and others, we were reminded all over again just why we despise the Vandals so much (see airhorns and Robb Akey). And those reminders made the final result all that much more rewarding. We only wish it had been 60-10.

Read on to find out our thoughts on what happened in the game on Saturday, and feel free to leave us a comment sharing your analysis as well. Are we already looking forward to next year’s game? You bet we are (but ask us again in August just to be safe).

The first barb in the New Mexico State - Boise State rivalry has been fired. Expect Boise State’s rebuttal on Saturday in the form of Kellen Moore touchdown passes and fist pumps.

Aggie offensive lineman Polo Gutierrez spoke his mind to members of the media yesterday, and in so doing, said a bunch of soon-to-be inaccurate things about his team and the Broncos. Our favorite was how Chris Williams will teach the Bronco secondary a thing or two. Guess we’ll find out on Saturday.

Read on to see exactly what Gutierrez said and to see what we wrote in response. We assume he reads our site.

Game balls: picked off by Brandyn Thompson!
Posted in Boise State football, Headline on 20 October 2008

Brandyn Thompson had an incredible game. The Bronco defensive line ran over and through Hawaii blockers. Ellis Powers maimed someone (pictured at left). In short, it was everything Bronco fans could have hoped for and more.

We found many deserving performances from Friday night’s game, but there are only so many game balls to go around. Actually, that’s not true. Game balls are unlimited; our attention span is not.
