The athletic schedule marches on. We have volleyball with eight more games and soccer with only two more regular-season contests. And the football team has been guaranteed a winning record for the regular season. Let us take a look at who excelled for the Broncos the last week.
Game Ball One:
Janelle Flores (soccer)
Last week the Broncos played to a pair of ties with New Mexico and UNLV. Against New Mexico Ms. Flores had seven saves on seven shots that were considered “on target” to preserve a shut out for the Broncos. Then, just five days later, she managed 12 more saves in a 1-1 tie against UNLV. As of this writing, the Broncos have secured a spot in the Mountain West Conference tournament championship and Ms. Flores is a big part of that.
Congratulations Ms. Flores for getting some work done!
Game Ball Two:
Jayme-Lee Bulda (volleyball)
The Broncos have been on a killer streak right now. They have won six straight matches and have yet to drop a set in any of them. Last week, Ms. Bulda was setting up her fellow Broncos to knock them down. How so? Against New Mexico, she had 42 assists for the Broncos. More than the entirety of the Lobos at 31. Then, against the UNLV Rebels, Ms. Bulda recorded another 43 assists. Her Rebel counterpart only mustered 23. The Broncos have been on a tear through the conference slate. And Ms. Bulda being Jenny-on-the-spot with the assists is one of the major reasons.
Ms. Bulda: congratulations!
Game Ball Three:
Jeremy McNichols (football)
Mr. McNichols is quiet-spoken beast of a man. Kind of a man-beast as it were. You cannot stop McNichols, you can only hope to contain him. And, even then, good luck. His year of awesome continued against the BYU Cougars with 147 yards on the ground, and 109 yards receiving. He added another two touchdowns to his lofty total as well. All this from a guy who is not even a first-team Mountain West Conference preseason selection. McNichols could go down as one of the best running backs Boise State has ever had, and that is saying something.
Congratulations Mr. McNichols!
Your Turn
Another week in the books and another set of Game Balls doled out. Anyone else stepped up? Any other performances we need to talk about? Let me know.
