Dumb Things Announcers Say, "This team is not giving up."

Once a viewer realizes that the announcer's only job is to keep you glued to the game you're watching on the TV everything becomes crystal clear. They will lie, mislead, or manufacture. If need be he would run naked in front of the camera. Thus, it is no surprise that even the walk-ons are refusing to be a part of a massacre and feigning muscle pulls to stay off the field. When that becomes even obvious to blithering optimist the announcer will joyfully say, "This team is not giving up."

When a team is completely physically, mentally, and emotionally out of a game you see a lot of arm tackles, slips on the turf, and guys getting up from the turf like a teenager on Saturday morning. When that occurs the announcer takes over to breath life into the game.

"Whatsamatta U is not giving up. He saw an open lane and slipped on the wet spot on the field. Too sharp of a cut; that's why he slipped." (He didn't want to get drilled in a losing effort. It's called playing dead.)

"Whatsamatta U is not giving up. Eventually those arm tackles will start bringing runners down." (more likely runners collapsing from exhaustion)

"Whatsamatta U in is not giving up. They're tired, but still getting up." (Well, some are just laying there until someone nudges them to see if they're alive.)

You have to hand it to the announcers they cover up a lot of boring football. They remind me of a two bit lawyer. "Of course my client was covered with blood. He had to handle the victim: how else could he get him in the trunk of the car in order to race him to the emergency room? If that's not reasonable doubt, I don't know what is."

Just for once I'd like to hear an announcer say, "This team has given up. There's another game on another channel. If you all switch to that game we can all go home."

When announcer says "This team has not given up," rest assured they have.
