Top Ten Comments of the Week (IMO)

Allow me to introduce myself, my name Indigo Brontoya... Anyway, here are my top ten picks. In all fairness their were many, many more. Because I agreed to retake the "top ten" only a couple of days ago I have not been as diligent as need be to pick the best (IMO) for the week.

In particular an effort was made to find the best from the post Who Are OBNUG? All were very good; so much so that my picks could be considered random. Yet, their were other very good ones that I left out for the sake of being able to highlight comments made in other posts.

Also it is important to mention the top ten are in no particular order. They were chosen in the order read and not from 10th to 1st or vice versa.

It might do well for me to restate my criteria; IMO they must be profound and stand on their own. Normally it is a comment that relates directly to an article; they are the ones that will receive attention and priority. Sometimes comments are humorous, insightful, and profound, but to give context would mean posting several other comments. Of course, there are exceptions. The mere fact a post has been "blued" will not be a consideration nor is it a rejection.

Here's 10 good posts:

Mostly singing, lately. I've been blessed with the ability to sound like Tony Bennett, plus I resemble the guy, which don't hurt nuthin'...
...so for the past 20 yrs I've been doing a Tony Bennett Tribute, and it has been very good to me...had the privilege to entertain the troops in the Sinai in ‘95, then played Military Bases throughout Europe, Turkey, Greece... Still do Musician work, though, can't give up my guitar...spent most of my adolescence in Spain, and became obsessed with Flamenco (and I mean OBSESSED...practiced 6 hrs a day, etc.), discovered Jazz there...I have been truly, truly blessed in my life...so fortunate to have fallen into these experiences...and to think now I have the NEXT HALF of my life to go-I can posilutley, absotively DIG IT...this is GONNA BE FUN!!!

You guys all have such interesting backgrounds...
Mine is uninspiring.
I started out trying to dance with the Ziegfeld Follies. I had the legs and could kick high enough, but couldn't get the hang of the boas and had very little to decorate with glitter... When Cirque d Soleil came along I thought maybe the trapeze would be my niche, but it turned out they prefer their artists about 5' tall and demure. Bummer. All that swinging practice for nothing. I tried out for The Mane Line Dancers thinking I could land a scholarship at least, but the twerking was really hard on my knees and I almost tore an ACL. Not to mention cracking neck vertebrae.
I finally landed a job with Howard's Auto Repair, replacing gaskets and yanking transmissions. It wasn't the Follies Bergere, but it paid several semesters at BSU when tuition was $278 for 15+ credits. Greasing joints and flushing drain plugs out of oil pans is hell on nail polish, though. And the black build-up under the nails really dampened datenight fervor.
See? Just the typical tribulations of college bw jobs.

This feels like that question in the interview...
...where you are asked to say a little about yourself. I usually end up nervously babbling until the interviewer has mercy on me and interrupts.
The screen name is - similar to NighthawkWatch above - the first name I ever used in a MUD. And it remains that to this day. Daern is usually the acceptable shortening of the name.
The profile picture... well aside from changing twice in the brief time I've been on here is here as a tribute to my Grandfather. He was a member of the Civil Engineer Corps and a SeaBee during the second world war. Served in the Pacific and specifically as one of the heads of CBMU 620 on Iwo Jima. He was an avid photographer and I believe my cousin currently has all the pictures he took on Iwo while serving there. And he had the stories that he was willing to share to spellbind his 5 grandsons with afterward, including telling of his set up of an makeshift dark room to develop some of the film he took there, and of his ignoring orders in 1946 to fly home to FL to see his wife and the daughter she had delivered while overseas that busted him from Lieutenant to Lieutenant (JG). A lot of the work that the CBMU was doing was keeping the airfields open, which is why the first picture was Nano-Block P-51.
And I would just like to add my own thanks and deepest admiration to all the amazing Nuggies who have served. I cannot help but be in awe of you all. Thank you.
The quote (have we hit the nervous babble stage yet?) is, obviously, about the Eiffel Tower. I did my thesis in grad school on the history of World Fairs and specifically the 1876 Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia and the 1889 Exposition Universelle in Paris, for which the Eiffel Tower was built. So yeah... consider that the history geek in me come to the forefront.

Late to the party
I need to get in the habit of checking the fanposts section.
Like a lot of people on here, I'm a veteran, was an MP in the army. The name "shovel" is a nickname that was bestowed upon me by some of my fellow soldiers in my platoon. It's a really funny story but I'm not going to tell it because it involves a vulgar subject matter.
I grew up in Idaho but I currently reside in Georgia.
The photo was taken at the Vegas bowl a few years ago when BSU beat Washington. My beard really grows in all orange like that, no dye needed...
The signature line is a reference to Dr. Evil from the movie Austin Powers.
And a lot of people say I look like the actor Charlie Day from It's Always Sunny in Philidelphia. Hence some recent refereces to Dayman!! Ah-ah aaah!

Nothing Fancy in the name
mrzp....because I'm a guy and ZP are my initials. I'm an Idaho fella who moved from Idaho Falls to the booming metropolis of Boise 11 years ago because a beautiful redhead came this way. I tricked her into marrying me and supporting my life as a high school English/History educator (also for 11 years). I'd say she tricked me into having two kids but they both turned out ginger, in the most beautiful spirited way. My kindergarten son gets the Broncos color scheme and always asks me why I watch so much football. It's hard for me to explain to a 5 year old about the archetypal journey that we all experience, let alone slap that idea onto a football player, a football team, and a town. Hell, I struggle to articulate it still. In fact, I can't get my principal to understand that over the course of four years of being with students (I teach at a charter and get four rad years with them rather than the standard one), leading a classroom of young adults to emotional and intellectual maturation is akin to leading a team of young adults to emotional and athletic intellectual maturation. My daughter can cheer for the Broncos (all football to her are the Broncos) and she likes mom to paint her nails blue and orange.
I have a passion for fly-fishing and reading and a part of me loves the spirit of transcendentalism and it's utmost respect for nature. In fact, I always appreciated when Senior Chief would alter his tag. Must be in the presence of many a fools still. Substantive conversation are what I come here for, along with the family atmosphere (classy, I would say), the laughs, and the sometimes heated discussions. I am happy and impressed that those most involved with the banter continue to return; a sign of, if not respect, at least open-mindedness and tolerance.
Weirdly, I enjoy the regulars a great deal, because of the football and non-football insight you offer: SC, BB, NY, Indigo, SJSD, Rav, kCam, The Russ-anator (maybe I just call you that). If family obligations where not my primary responsibility then I'd try to do the Meet and Greet with this amazing OBnug familia and share a pint or drink of whisky.
Indigo, loved this post. Much appreciation to all who participate and share in this other family. Hats off to you.

Sorry I'm late to the party.
Ever since I was a kid I was obsessed with Orange. I love all thing orange. Orange crayons, orange oranges, orange juice, orange sunsets, orange teams (including the Syracuse Orangemen, until I found out they were horrible). Vasquez sounds secretive and spanish and mystic, which makes up for the fact that I'm a boring white guy. It's also a call out to the name I used to use online when I'm playing video games (gamertag).
My signature is from a recent book I read with a motto I love: the setting is a post-epidemic America where while everyone is just scrapping what they can together to start communities all over again, and in the process, a travelling troupe performs classic orchestral works and Shakespeare for the people, scrounging on whatever food they can along the dangerous path. On the side of their wagons they answer the obvious question of "Why?": BECAUSE SURVIVAL IS INSUFFICIENT. It also happens to be inspired by Star Trek, a fitting homage to my somewhat nerdy upbringing. Live life to the fullest. Why? Because life is out there for the taking. So go get it.
As for the fandom... Born and raised in Boise, love the team through and through (and their ORANGE!), but college took me to BYU and Colorado State. Hoping to make it back to Boise once I use Denver as a strong professional springboard. Nothing depressed me more than when the orange helmets became a bad luck charm. I love those things.

I mostly lurk
But I couldn't resist coming out from the shadows this year when the request for more content went out and I got to take a shot at anagramming some rosters.
Taco Style is one of the many anagrams of my real name. I like how it combines flash with low taste level. It's better than Toy Castle or Yeast Clot, or some of the other options.
I never finished my profile. I'd probably post a picture of food. Perhaps a bowl of Matzo ball soup.
I grew up in Northern California in the 70s as the child of hippie wolves. I got a literature degree at UC Santa Cruz (yes, I'm a slug), where our only sports team was our National Champion Ultimate Frisbee team.
I spent my twenties outdoors as a rafting guide and field biologist in Alaska, Hawaii, the Florida Keys, Israel, and just about every western state. In my thirties I learned statistics and GIS and in my early forties I had kids (yes, I'm a glutton for punishment).
My wife is a professor at BSU (we've lived here for 8 years now) and I can't remember life before being a Bronco fan.
OBNUG is truly one if life's great diversions. Some day I'll get more active with posts, but I feel a big off-season lurk coming on. It's a fun community to follow and the only social media I participate in at all.
Now... The future needs it's BW kicked, so I must be on my merry way...

My name is Paul
I started mis-spelling it in 9th grade to frustrate my English teacher. I don't still spell it that way, but its always available on yahoo, twitter, or whatever so I just use that. My picture is me at the end of Stachetober on Halloween dressed as a giraffe. I don't normally look that stupid. Other than that I'm a born n raised Boisean, BSU alum, husband, and a youth pastor.

(Editor's note; for those new to OBNUG this post has so much background. Trust me, this is rich.)

How is Fresno vs. Boise a choice?
Unless the Bulldogs are offering him a car or something...

This content was not created by OBNUG and therefore may not meet our standards. On the contrary, it probably exceeds them.
