The Harsin Era Begins

Boise State has reached a tipping point. Does the team continue Chris Petersen's DNA implant on Bronco Nation with a victory over Ole Miss? Or does it start the slippery slope down the Mountain West Trail? It is most important to note that part of Chris Petersen's DNA is in Coach Harsin. He, Brian, pulled the offensive strings for four years during his Boise tenure. Harsin has called all hands on deck, many coming from that Petersen Era coaching pool. Harsin, a student of Petersen, is his own man. He has the guts to make a call for a critical win. Harsin has surrounded himself with Petersen like choices for his coaching cast of team building. Bronco Nation has not been abandoned. Coach Harsin has Petersen DNA and more importantly, his own mastery of the game.

What fans want to see in Georgia is that Bronco "IT" factor. During the game look for innovation during the game where Mississippi may lock down on the Broncos on both sides of the ball. Much to the frustration of Bronco prone viewers, a sense of frustration will settle in. Then comes that "play", that run, or that hit. Bam, the Broncos are back! The Rebels regroup, and then the Broncos keep going in a new direction! Pivotal plays are the new Boise Black list for the Rebels. While covering Miller tightly, he catches one. Chasing SWR, Rebels miss one. Its a game until the final gun. Harsin coaches for opportunity and exploits it. Sanford goes two deep in play calling. Two deep are those plays made special for the Rebel looks. Defense is a big concern. The Rebels have the "Hogs" who can mow down in a bang/bang two play run game. They have the pitch and catch skill sets causing burn marks for any defense.

Part of the defense is Boise offense, keeping its defense off the field. Machine like drives, consuming clock. Leaving the Rebel two deep offense off the field. During the first three quarters, with long drives by Mississippi, will not help the Broncos in the fourth quarter. Boise, however, needs quick strikes at crucial moments for snapping off the Rebel head, and changing its game plan. Pacing balance is critical for Boise. On any given play Boise can explode and will not settle into consecutive three and outs. If they do go three and out as a habit, well you know the rest of the story. Three and outs happen, it is important to watch the offensive adjustment when it does happen. Offensive innovation should happen at some point in the game. Especially after a three and out.

Now comes the defensive rhetoric. Deeeefeeence is the mystery for this game. Afterwards everyone will know what defense Boise has to bring to future parties. So much has graduated over the last few years, and so much has not played knuckle in the dirt football. The line backers are great and will have a breakout year. The secondary has hitters. The down lineman are a collection of great potential. This game will demonstrate whether their potential will emerge. If it does emerge, Broncos will run the table and not just win this game. Rebels could neutralize the effort, but I believe it won't, because once again, the Broncos throw a blitz into the package during Rebel attacks. Because the Broncos can! The edge is where this game will be played, not in the middle. The Rebels will try to exploit the middle from its sure offensive size. The surprise is the Bronco ability to stuff the run. Rebels will go and pass as often as it can. The surprise is the discovery of a new sack machine from the edge. All of this will unfold during the whole game. Don't expect first quarter excitement as both are just off the practice field and are feeling out its own team stability until the second quarter.

Second quarter will see both teams try its rehearsed programs in offense and defense. The third quarter is wild cat/play time for both teams. Adjustments made and dinner napkins with plays scribbled on come out. Broncos will play its game to the final seconds. A win will happen and a loss will occur. The Broncos are nothing but winners.
