Per a release from Boise State's Sports Information Director, Joe Nickell, RS Junior Taylor Loffler is retiring from football due to injuries. In a statement, Coach Bryan Harsin said:
"We appreciate Taylor for the effort he put into this program and what he has given to this team," Harsin said. "Unfortunately, his injuries are not going to allow him to finish his playing career, but he is going to continue to be a big part of Bronco Football as he finishes school. He is excited about where Boise State is headed, and we are going to continue to be here for him as he works toward earning his degree."
This is a bit heartbreaking to say the least. Loffler made great strides last season as he was finally healthy and looked primed to challenge for time in the secondary. From Harsin's statement, it appears that Loffler will have some coaching/scouting responsibilities with the team while he finishes up his education.
Additionally, the statement also revealed that senior Justin Taimatuia will redshirt this season, again due to injuries. Taimatuia was expected to be a major part of the defensive tackle rotation, making that position a much bigger question mark leading up to the season opener.
Get healthy fellas!
