5 Reasons We'll Be Talking About a Bronco Win in 5 Weeks

I don't know about anyone else here, but amidst all the change and hope and optimism surrounding the program and coaching staff, I was still rather pessimistic about our chances against Ole Miss in 4 weeks and 6 days. I was convinced that our team would not be ready, the offensive line would be overmatched, and Mississippi's monster recruiting classes of recent years would make the talent too lopsided to overcome. I even voted on blueturfsports that the team would "lose a close one". Shame on me. But I received a text yesterday from a close friend talking about creative play calling. We joked about some idiotic ideas and trick plays. I got that optimism back. I started thinking about game 1. And after taking a look at the teams, the processes now in place, and the new coaching staff, I'm starting to drink the cool aid. I'm on the bandwagon. I believe that we will win! So here's why:

5 Jay Ajayi - Most people are aware of this guy's running abilities, to run downhill, with power, acceleration, and just enough niftiness to make a difference. One thing I think we all are curious to see is what he is able to do with more creative play calling. Get this young man in space, and he is going to make an impact. And I heard rumor's that Joe Martarano will be running as a fullback in front of him... That may be all the difference the team needs to punish an Ole Miss defense that expects to be able to show up and stop the Broncos by talent alone.

4 Grant Hedrick - I haven't been a huge fan of Hedrick up to now. I'm still missing Kellen Moore. I was more keen on Ryan Finley due largely to arm strength before he injured his shoulder. But I believe after a summer of being the number 1, working on accuracy and arm strength, we will be able to see better throws downfield and less high-arching rainbows. The depth behind Hedrick will also give him and the coaches more confidence and let him run all over Ole Miss. Many have said they believe the previous coaching staff held him back with lack of prepared depth behind him last year. I see visions of a few Manziel-esque runs to give them nightmares reminiscent of their loss to A&M last year.

3 DBs - We have all had our fair share of negative things to say about the defensive secondary. They had a lot of inexperience, a scheme that was easy to pick apart, and in my humble opinion were not attacking enough. All that is going to change. They return essentially everyone. They really started to make major strides last year. Marcel Yates is coming back, reinstalling DBU and bringing more creativity to the defensive secondary play calling.

2 Motivation - It might be just me, but last year felt like a nap. I never felt like the excitement or passion was there. The team played hard, but fell just short a few different times. It seemed like coach Peterson was not in it as much as he normally was. The challenge was gone. This year, the new coaches are excited, energetic, and passing that on to the team. There's new excitement and hope for the potential the team has, where they are and where they are going. Ole Miss is a known quantity. They are going to come out confident because of their talent; and lets face it, they should be. The underdog mentality, creativity, and blue collar toughness will make the difference.

1 Play calling - I believe that the new coaching staff is going to have an overhauled playbook that will catch teams off-guard. Harsin eluded to it at media days - an evolution with some hurry up offenses, and some huddle offenses. TIGHT ENDS?!?! Martarano at fullback. A fullback! It'll be nice to see the playbook hold more than 10 formations and plays. I think Boise State will have a clear cut advantage with the ability to see Ole Miss' (Mrs.?) offense in film, while the opposite will not be true. The Broncos will be able to attack and make the Rebels think. As Mississippi has to think and change, Boise State will leverage preparation and hard work to win.

So I spent all summer being negative and expecting a nice game at the end of August, but a loss. I now think Boise State will win. They'll win convincingly. I'm predicting a score of 31-20. I think Hedrick will throw a couple touchdowns, Ajayi will run in two more, and Goodale will hit a 40 yard field goal. On defense we'll force three turnovers and impress the nation against a "more talented" team. There's my rant. Probably didn't make any sense, but that's ok. What does everyone else think? What's your way too early prediction?
