FanPost

Greater appreciate after reflecting

I've never created a fanpost before and simply felt the urge (with probably the great help of a bottle of Merlot) to make sense of my feelings about the Broncos impact to the community and my growing interest as a fan.

While moving through traffic today I was listening 93.1 local talk show, Craves and Prater, and they spoke on the fact that no longer can BSU just show up and win half their games. Gone are the days of complete and utter dominance, the Gold Age of top 10 national finishes. Competition in our league has grown, we have evolved in different ways, and I am more committed as a fan today then I was back Pre-Fiesta Bowl 1. And all this is pretty exciting!

I was thinking about the moment that it all clicked for me. Georgia Game. The buildup in news. The slow start. The adjustments made. Then Kellen came out and took over in the 3rd and 4th quarter. Precision, some excellence on a nationally televised level. We joke he has ice in his veins and he makes some pretty mean sandwiches. And yeah, pretty much true. In fact, I can think of only one instance in his four playing years that he looked panicked. And the coaching to make such adjustments. It was all amazing.

Anyway, that game opened my eyes to why BSU football is so great for this city. There is ripple effect, like the rock dropped in the lake, that emanates from this program. Inspiration, community, dialogue, a common goal, the chance to meet an unlikely person one may never talk with because of many reasons life, and ourselves, throw out; the chance to pridefully nod to the passer by, in any city in the country, when they walk past sporting some type of Blue or Orange.

It is all pretty amazing and pretty special. And the need for the team to have new blood and to recommit to rebuilding, or whatever one is going to call it, is supported by the community and in some odd paradoxical way , the individual must too commit to continual growth and support of the team, community, and self.

In some weird way BSU football is a common denominator, a living metaphor for our community.
