BURTON LEAVES BOISE STATE
Boise State men's golf coach Kevin Burton resigned after nine seasons, the school announced Wednesday. Burton will become a golf instructor at Pierce Park Greens in Boise.
Burton made $44,242 for the 2013-14 school year.
"For nine years, I dug myself in a pretty good financial hole," Burton said. "I love doing this more than anything else in the world, but I can't keep putting my family second. I need to be able to support them and it's not going to happen here."
Burton would like to focus on mentoring junior high and high school golfers. He couldn't work with high school players as the Broncos' coach because of rules governing recruitable athletes.
"I'm looking forward to working with junior high and high school kids and helping them get to college instead of taking college kids and getting them to the pros," he said.
