It has been a strange feeling seeing Boise State players and coaches on twitter -- actually tweeting. I had conflicted feelings. Is it actually ok to tweet to coaches? Can we criticize their decisions or will they destroy all accounts once we ask about injuries? Then Bryan Harsin warmed us all up.
First with IronMan:
Then with recruiting updates:
GO BRONCOS!— Coach Bryan Harsin (@bryanharsin) January 4, 2014
Feeling a little more comfortable with the idea, I felt ok mentioning Coach Hars (I can call him that now, you'll see why later) in a tweet during his press conference today.
.@bryanharsin loves touching the mic. If we ever need his fingerprints...— M A Haddox (@LoqueBSU) January 8, 2014
I really though nothing of it. But coming home from work, I found this little gem in my direct message inbox:
I think the best way to sum this up is "Awesome." What he said was comical and trivial, but the fact that our head coach would DM an average fan is just a completely different feeling with what we're used to. Coach Harsin is making the program and its actions more accessible to the fans -- something that was always under lock and key while Coach Petersen was here.
Whether we'll see repercussions of public twitter usage from coaches and players is yet to be seen. But for now, the small, personal attention Coach gave me has sealed my decision to purchase season tickets this year.
