Remember all the way back in 2007 when BSU upset the once mighty Oklahoma Sooner's? BSU ended the regular season ranked #8. And then a couple a years later they were allowed to play against TCU in another BCS bowl game because they were 13-0 and ranked #6?
The system is now inked for a 4 game playoff system. What a huge improvement to a system that so generously allowed the Broncos to play in its grandiose sandbox for a few years. During that time, BSU went undefeated twice and never ranked higher than sixth at the end of regular season play. The BCS had a system that could be "busted" and proved that the smaller conferences could not only stand up to the mighty elite, they could win.
Case in point: remember when Utah beat the living daylights out of Alabama? Under this wonderful system, that game never would have taken place. Utah was ranked 7 and Bama was 4.
The powers that be in college football (namely the SEC, PAC-12, Big 10/12, ACC and Notre Dame) could not stand for this endless stream of embarrassing losses on their hallowed bowl games with the entire nation watching. Hence, they have invented a playoff system, which on the surface looks like an honest approach to granting access to the likes of BSU to the actual championship game. In reality it does nothing more than bar the doors to the smaller non AQ schools dangle the keys in front of their faces and laugh all the way to the bank.
This new playoff system is designed to allow a group of 13 individuals to select the top 4 teams based on what? Their OPINIONS. How were they selected? Again, based on the OPINION of the NCAA selection committee that these would not be biased individuals. And yet 8 of them come from former and current athletic department jobs in the SEC, PAC-12, ACC and Big10-12.) So they have already admitted that there is bias and they are doing their part to balance the bias.
An already flawed system, replete with fraud and deceit is just going to get a whole lot worse as it does nothing more than protect the Big 5 conferences and Notre Dame and ensure that they rake in their billions with a false claim of a fair system which still elects who are the best teams in the nation without having them have to actually play any of these upstarts with legitimate claims to their thrones. What's worse is that the majority of fans are buying it.
At least with the BCS we got a shot at Oklahoma, took it, and played the best game of football ever seen.
