I am not going to get into in-depth X's and O's because those are so excellently covered by other posters, but I want to talk about the problems and the good things this team is doing, mainly because I find myself stuck between a fan crisis and unabashed optimism.
It's no secret that the Broncos have plenty of problems right now. The secondary, defense in general, the "worst good offense" headlined by the "least impressive good QB", decision making by the coaches that seems erratic at times. I want to know what are the factors for these problems. I think the biggest one might be the defections of the 2011 recruiting class. Those guys would have been our bread and butter this year. Otherwise, Is the talent just not there? Are we over-hyping the talent? Is it the offensive scheme? Coaching?
At the same time, we have an ever improving recruiting class (which lots of people don't like to admit). One of the best coaches who should have a year or three left and a D-Coordinator who is trying the make the best without any returning experience. I think our offense is having growing pains, and I think that once the younger guys start running it we could see more of our old offense implemented with the new spread concepts. One of our bigger offensive issues, imo, is that there is 0 deep threat from the QB position. We have RBs who are effective and receivers who can work the underneath (Moore thrives there), but our deep attack is not in sync.
We can still beat USU and especially BYU. Fresno with a stud senior QB and an explosive offense needed everything to beat maybe the worst Bronco team since 2007 or 2005. We should be able to compete with USU and BYU. I'm just starting to wonder about the future development. My diagnosis is that we're just an extremely young team at a lot of positions with not enough true veteran difference makers at others.
