2014 Recruit Roundup: September 15, 2013

Dimitri Flowers, TE, 6-3, 220 lbs. (Churchill HS, San Antonio, TX)

The Chargers dropped to 2-1 on the year after falling 28-6 to Judson on Friday night. After logging 4 TDs last week, Flowers was held to just 4 receptions and 24 yards by Judson. He had a TD catch called back due to penalty. The Chargers will look to right the ship against Wagner this Friday.

Jalen Greene, QB, 6-2, 185 lbs. (Serra HS, Gardena, CA)

Serra moved to 3-0 on the year after a 2 OT scare from Notre Dame on Friday evening. Greene tossed the game-winning TD to fellow Serra star Adoree Jackson in double-OT to seal a 20-13 victory. In the win, Greene was 15-31 for 265 yards and 2 scores. He also had a 15-yard rushing TD in the game. On the year, Greene has 764 yards passing and 9 TDs, with another 3 rushing TDs to his name as well. Serra will face Dorsey this Friday night.

Shay Fields, WR, 5-11, 170 lbs. (St. John Bosco, Bellflower, CA)

St. John Bosco moved to 3-0 on the season after stopping Chandler (AZ) 52-31 on Saturday night. I've been unable to find Fields' individual stats from the win. Prior to Friday's matchup, he had 228 receiving yards with 2 TDs. SJB will play Loyola on Friday evening.

Sean Modster, WR, 5-11, 185 lbs. (Mission Viejo HS, Mission Viejo, CA)

Modster's Mission Viejo squad (barely) moved to 3-0 on Saturday night by taking down Don Bosco Prep in OT. I don't have Modster's full stat line from the game, but know he had a 18-yard TD before halftime and another 64 yard reception that set up a FG. I'll report Modster's full season stats when they become available. Mission Viejo will play Greg Gaines and La Habra this Friday.

Drew Sample, TE, 6-5, 235 lbs. (Newport HS, Bellevue, WA)

Newport moved to 2-0 on the year after defeating South Kitsap on Friday night. I was unable to locate any stats for Sample in the 35-14 win. Newport will take on Woodinville this Friday to try to improve to 3-0.

Brandon Lewis, CB, 5-10, 170 lbs. (Pleasant Grove High School, Elk Grove, CA)

Pleasant Grove is now 3-0 after a 62-7 demolition of Nevada Union on Friday night. It was Lewis' first action of the year after nursing a minor injury (he sat out last season with an ACL tear). No defensive statistics were released for Pleasant Grove, but Lewis did play some offense in the game, rushing the ball 5 times for 81 yards and 2 scores. PGHS will take on Inderkum this Friday.

Greg Gaines, DT, 6-2, 295 lbs. (La Habra HS, La Habra, CA)

La Habra improved to 3-0 on the year after beating St. Paul  41-7. La Habra has not released any stats for the first 3 contests, although offensively, Gaines has been a weapon from the fullback/RB position. I will log his stats as soon as they become available. As mentioned earlier, La Habra will take on Sean Modster's Mission Viejo squad this week.

Hawkins Mann, DE, 6-4, 220 lbs. (John Burroughs High School, Burbank, CA)

Strange things are afoot with DE commit Hawkins Mann, who was inexplicably sidelined for Borah's first two games. Friday evening it was reported that Mann had transferred to John Burroughs High School in Burbank, CA and is trying to get clearance to play next week for the squad. No word yet on what, if anything, Mann's out-of-state transfer will do to his continued recruitment.

Khalil Oliver, S, 6-1, 170 lbs. (Rocky Mountain High School, Meridian, ID)

Rocky Mountain's Thursday night game against Meridian was postponed due to lightning, however, Rocky Mountain held a 31-0 lead over Meridian before the game was called. The game will resume tomorrow night (Monday) at 7 p.m. at the start of the 3rd quarter. There will be no charge at the gate. Rocky Mountain will also rebound and play Boise on Thursday evening.

Ryan Griswold, OT, 6-5, 250 lbs. (Pearland HS, Pearland, TX)

Pearland moved to 3-0 with a big win over Memorial on Friday night and have now outscored opponents 140-3 on the year. The Oilers have a bye this weekend, but will be back in action against Pasadena (TX) on the 28th.

Jesse Sosebee, OT, 6-6, 300 lbs. (Edison High School, Huntington Beach, CA)

Edison sits at 2-0 after a bye last weekend. They will take on powerhouse Servite on the 19th.

Stats are hard to come by in many prep circles. If you have any tips on any of the 2014 Bronco verbal commits, let me know.
