I wouldn't normally do this. I'm not someone who asks for help very often. And really, the help is not for me. But when my Facebook "family" fell through and dropped the ball, the first thing that came to mind was my Bronco Nation family.
Boise State isn't just about winning football games. Coach Pete is really about changing lives. Making boys into men. Turning straight the otherwise lost young boy. What I am asking you to do is to help me change some lives.
Many of you may know that I served a mission in the Philippines. I was there from 2005-2007. I lived on the very island that is all over the news the past few weeks. The island of Leyte, and the city of Tacloban. As you likely know, this island has been absolutely devastated by the latest typhoon. One of the worst, if not the worst, storm in the history of the world. There is thought to be over 10,000 deaths. Most are without food, water, or shelter.
I personally got to know thousands of Filipinos and am familiar with their resilient spirit. However, resilience only goes so far.
I was recently contacted by a family that I was very close with in the village of Tanauan (link here on what Tanauan looks like now - several pics and video if you scroll down). Tanauan is right on the eastern seaboard, and was completely wiped off the map with the 200+mph winds. This family literally lost everything. There is nothing where their small bamboo home used to be. They literally have the clothes on their backs, and are sleeping inside an LDS church right now as they struggle to live. The last I heard, they told me they had not eaten in four days. The relief efforts are large now, but many are being left to starve to death as bodies are buried en mass grave.
I want to help. They need help. I have been posting on Facebook, but only 2 of my 500+ friends have offered any assistance. A mere $20 is the equivalent of nearly 1,000 pesos. A meal for a family would cost only a few hundred pesos at most.
The Calibao family needs help. I know and love this family dearly. I am asking any of you to look in your hearts during this time of Thanksgiving, and help with a small donation. I know many of you donate to the Red Cross and other relief organizations, and I appreciate that. However, you never really know where that money is going. If you can find the extra money in this very tough time of year, you will know exactly where that money is going. This is where it is going:
There are at least another 4 young children that are part of this family, but are not pictured here - one of which is still on formula. I am trying to raise enough funds to get some food in their bellies, some new clothes on their backs, and to get some supplies to start to rebuild their home. If you can help, here are the directions:
1. Venmo: Venmo is a free mobile application (iPhone and Android). You download the app and set up an account. You have to add a credit/debit card and you can wirelessly transfer money straight to me. Send it to email@example.com. You should also be able to access online at venmo.com and send from there.
2. PayPal: also free, and not required to download any type of app. You can go to paypal.com and click the Transfer, then Send Someone Money link. Type in your email, and then my email (firstname.lastname@example.org) and click transfer. It will ask for a credit/debit/bank account to pull the money from to send to me.
Thank you all for reading, and please pray for those in these very rough circumstances.
Sincerely and with gratitude,
