"This is not the end, this is not even the beginning of the end, this is just perhaps the end of the beginning."
― Winston Churchill
SDSU and Boise State have met twice ever at football in the history of the two schools. One would think it could hardly be called a rivalry, what with so few games played, but SDSU and Boise State are forever entwined in Mountain West lore. The Aztecs coach, Rocky Long (who took over for Brady Hoke in 2011) seemed to be behind the blue on blue ban that the MWC handed down. However, they were also the team that believed enough in the dream to talk to the Big East about playing in that conference as our travel partner before the deal dissolved. We all felt it was odd for a team from Boise to play in the Eastern time zone - imagine it from the Aztec fan perspective!
However, everything worked out for the MWC and both teams ended up staying at home in the west, and started building what could be a very heated rivalry. SDSU taking out the Broncos on the Blue last year was a statement game, a shot heard round the MWC. Followed up by beating the best Bronco bouncyhoop team in some time TWICE last season, and the Aztecs officially put themselves on the Bronco Hate Map.
"To win you need to have first lost. That makes you so hungry to win that you'll do everything you can to achieve it."
― Brendon Clark
SDSU is obviously good at playing up to their opponent. The Fightin' Montezumas are currently 6-4, sitting second in the West division behind Fresno. Losses to powerhouses like Directional Illinois and Oregon State make no sense for a team that nearly took out the Bulldogs, and has been stomping their way through the MWC. Of course, this season hasn't been the Broncos prettiest, but now that the defense has gelled and the offense is scoring its face off, a beatdown of SDSU in a cavernous Qualcomm Stadium will be a nice way to end a horrendous road schedule.

So, SDSU, I'd say good luck, but I really don't mean it. Boise State owes you guys a shot in the mouth for last year, and are looking great right now. Sure, San Diego is gorgeous and as someone who froze at a night game last week, I'm jealous as hell of the weather. Doesn't mean that I love Boise any less. The Aztecs are the little jerk friend of the guy we're headed to fight at the flagpole, baiting us in the hallway on our way to greatness in the MWC Championship game. Prepare to get pwnd, SDSU, from blue turf to hardwood. 2013 just isn't the year.
