Boise State has 49 straight wins in the month of October and has won 21 straight against teams coming from Utah. Those are relatively trivial, but they make good filler for TV announcers and are fodder for trivia buffs and stat geeks.
Because I am a stat geek and track such things, here are some other trivial streaks that will calm your fears if you are the superstitious type.
In the Coach Pete era the Broncos have not lost to a team wearing white helmets. By my count they are 22-0 since 2006 against teams wearing white lids. BYU has worn white helmets in every game so far this year. (The Broncos are only 5-4 when wearing white helmets themselves. 40% of Pete's losses have come when wearing a white helmet)
Boise State is 5-0 when wearing black helmets and black pants, although they have never worn the black/white/black combo.
Not related to this week's game, but their longest uni-related streak is while wearing blue jersey tops. The Broncos have won 75 straight games wearing blue jerseys, including five bowl games and two regular-season away games.
Much will be made of Hedrick making his first start, but a Boise State QB has not lost his first start since Ryan Dinwiddie lost the opener to South Carolina in 2001. Rhode, Zabransky, Tharpe, Moore, (Does Hamdan's senior day pick-six count?), Southwick all started their careers with a win.
