Last night in one of many failed forth down attempts Swick took off and ran; he had clear traffic and a lane to the sticks so the run itself was a good decision. His decision process went downhill quickly after that! Most of you saw this play about a half a yard away from the first down marker he decides to slide and avoid a hit from a defender 3 yards away, and -like the rest of last night- he fell short and turned the ball over on downs. The play didn't need to go that way however, he could have secured the ball taken two steps, -taken the hit- and maybe just maybe gained some momentum for the Offense; instead he slid like a BW and gave the ball back to BYU. I feel like he did something very similar in the MSU game as well, but I cannot fully remember. I understand self preservation and I understand he is probably coached to slide more often than not; but fourth down is the time to man up take the Hit like a football player and get the first down.
I'm not blaming the entire struggle that was our offense last night on Swick, but he didn't help us at all. He wasn't super accurate, and I saw at least one second down play were he scrambled around like a idiot -with a open check down- until he got hit and took a 5 yd loss.
Last night after about the third quarter I found myself feeling sad whenever we got the ball; because I knew I would have to watch my beloved Broncos fail on offense. I have been actively watching games and following the Team as long as I can remember, I have ticket stubs from a 1992 match up with EWU. Last nights game was the worst performance I have ever seen from a BSU offense; and I sat through the entire first UGA game! I very strongly believe that something needs to change with our Offense and it needs to happen fast.
