I am an OBNUG lurcher and love what's done on this site. I legitimately love it. It's college football fandom in its most pure form. I respect and give props to what you created.
So why am I here?
As you saw in the title of this fanpost, I am a BYU student and I am the beat-writer for football for our school paper. Nothing you will say will be "on the record" (meaning I won't just arbitrarily be throwing into the paper things you say without your permission) so feel free and at ease to say what you will. I think this should be a lot of fun... so let's press forward.
I've spoken with a few students here in Provo about the prospects of playing AT Boise State. To sum up some of the reactions that I'm getting, most of what I am hearing sounds like this:
"Boise State has lost too many good players. [you may have yawned right there... you've been hearing that all off-season, sorry haha] They played hard against Michigan State, but Boise State's offense couldn't move the ball. The defense got worn out in the end. They weren't impressive. Playing at Boise used to be really difficult, but BYU's defense is just as good as Boise State's, and this year our offense has a lot of our own surprises so we should go in there and beat them. It won't be easy, but we are the better team this year. We should win this game."
I will say most students here definitely respect Boise State and are not treating this game lightly, but overall, I feel that many students see BYU as the better team this year. Many students also still remember the last time BYU played at Boise and lost on that missed field goal.
So, I am wondering...
Do you guys see BYU as a team comparable to Boise State this year? Who is the better team? Are you afraid BYU legitimately has a chance to win in Boise? I see you guys also play this Saturday, and then turn around and have to play us next Thursday. Will that be an issue?
