We are all bummed, disappointed, and even some angry. From my perspective, I see it like this.
#1 We (as fans) have seen better in the past and have been spoiled especially over the last 4 years. We also feel that we know the team has the ability to play better so we are disappointed when we don't go undefeated or even win the "big" game.
#2 We are angry because we have expectations of making it to a respectable (BCS/NCG) bowl game, but the only way that that happens for a team from outside the "Big 6" is to go undefeated. So even a loss to a team that is "better" (by preseason ranking, whatever those mean) by 4 points on the road with a new QB and new OC makes us feel like the season is over. So remember it is the system to we are angry at.
#3 I had to remind myself last night after realizing point #2 above that there was a day not too long ago (like less than 15 years ago) when we weren't ranked, we didn't go to ANY bowl games, and we just cheered and rooted for the Boys in Blue just to compete and to beat teams like Weber State, North Texas, and Eastern Washington.
Yes, we are bummed and all feel that best case scenario is a Mountain West title and a Macco Bowl against a mediocre Pac-12 team, but remember it is a game, we are fans who love the game. Things could be much worse than they are now. I'm currently watching the So. Miss v Nebraska game with So. Miss being down 49-20. Think about it. Michigan State is ranked above Nebraska (again what do preseason rankings mean) and we only lost by 4 AND we didn't lose on a missed kick.
Yes, I am very bummed, but I'm going to try to remember how blessed we are to have a team that has been as great as it has been and is still a quality team. After watching BYU and So. Miss this weekend, I am confident that the Broncos will end up having a great season. That being said, I would love to hear your feedback so please leave your thoughts.
P.S. My summary to the game. We couldn't establish a run game and couldn't stop their run game. That's all. Short and sweet. We make a couple key stops of their run game and make some runs of our own to open the playbook you have a completely different ball game. I believe we will improve and I look forward to a great season of Bronco football!
