It's probably a bad idea to be writing a FanPost so shortly after the Michigan State game has ended, but whatever...

Let's be realistic for a moment...the idea that we "wouldn't miss a beat" this year is just unrealistic. Yes, it was rehashed over and over all offseason, but we did just lose the majority of our starters and a quarterback who I am fairly convinced is not actually human he was so good...so maybe the media had a point.

I watched the comment thread during the game, but didn't chime in this time. One thing I noticed though, was how many people were making statements like, "I'm so over the Southwick era already. Why isn't Patti playing?" Really? REALLY? Can we get real for a minute? It was ONE game and it is likely our most DIFFICULT game. Yes, I'm going CAPS here. The point is that an "era" can't be defined by one game. If Joe is still not doing much a few games in, then we can scream and yell about it, but for now I look at it this way. HE'S NOT KELLEN. No one is. Kellen is SPECIAL (despite whatever NFL people say). We don't get a new Kellen...we just don't...really...it's true. Southwick could still be good...we just don't know yet. I'll tell everyone this though: Patti probably would have been a disaster tonight. The kid is...well, just that, a kid. He might be great some day, but I don't think he would have been ready tonight. If Swick stinks it up this year, then I'll be happy to see Patti step in next year, assuming he's earned it...on the other hand, Swick may surprise a few naysayers after another 12 (including bowl) games.

As for those who were questioning Pete? I think he's built up some credibility by now. 'Nuff said.

What happened tonight? Simple. A very sloppy football game was played by two teams with a lot of talent that are trying to work out a few kinks. Don't believe ESPN's BS, by the way...we could absolutely bust the BCS this year if we win out (which is a very tall order, but let's not give up just yet) because all we really need is to be top 16 and for our future conference to be underwhelming (or the ACC...whichever). Also notice how they suddenly went back to the whole "BSU is so much smaller, etc." schtick after abandoning it two years ago? Get that chip back on your shoulder Bronco Nation...

I apologize for ranting, it's not usually my thing around here. Must be the angry New Yorker side of me coming out...um, BW the Red Sox! Okay. I'll stop now. GO BRONCOS!!!
