The Boise State defensive line will have a different look this season - like a completely, brand new look. No one returns. Everyone is different. This does not have to be a bad thing and might actually be less of a problem than American football experts believe. There is talent on this defensive line, and I enlisted the help of Drew and ce'sped azul to help me identify said talent.
Kevan:
Beau Martin
When the Broncos released their probably-just-guesses depth chart at Mountain West media days, I was intrigued to see Beau Martin's name in a tie for the starting defensive end. Martin was named Boise State's defensive scout player of the year after coming over as a transfer from CSU-Pueblo. Now he is primed for a role in the D-line rotation, as a grinder behind the more notable Demarcus Lawrence and Sam Ukwuachu. I can easily see Martin being the type of steady hand that the DEs will need - holding down the run, collapsing the pocket, finishing with more sacks than anyone thought he would.
Drew:
Sam Ukwuachu
I really think that UK is going to be a great, great player for us. Yeah, he needs to bulk up a little bit, but I think he's perfect for the "STUD" position aka "The McClellin". Demarcus Lawrence may end up with more sacks, but I think that UK will be the most disruptive overall.
ce'sped azul:
Sam Ukwuachu
I think we'll see Ukwuachu a lot on passing downs. While his size may not be optimal for stopping the run and shedding blockers, his speed and strength will make him a dangerous edge rusher. I'm boldly expecting him to lead the team in sacks this year. I also think he'll be 230 or more by the season, and size may not be as big an issue as it seems. When not rushing the quarterback, he'll also have the speed to drop back into pass coverage and the size and wingspan to make plays on the ball.
