Video: Santa Monica's Chris Collins and Inglewood's Darien Barrett on Why They Picked Boise State on National Signing Day
As promised, here are the links to the interviews of Santa Monica's Chris Collins and Inglewood's Darien Barrett after signing their letters of intent to play at Boise State on National Signing Day.
The sound is not as ideal as I would have like it, but both of the schools signing ceremonies were in small room and my flip camera is great at picking up every sound. But enough excuses....enjoy!
My only request is that you watch the entire commercial before the interviews start as it the one of the ways I make money and can provide this kind of content.
Thanks

Thank you!
You did your homework – and kept your word. You should be getting a job offer from the L.A. Times very soon! Their CFB writer, Chris Dufresne, is one of our heroes around here.
Keep up the good work!
Thanks man...
That was pretty awesome. Good Luck to your future of being in journalism.

I'm REALLY liking
This Darien Barrett kid, he is OKG for sure! Also loving hearing recruits talk about academics as one of the reasons for picking BSU, that’s awesome!

Welcome to the team
folks. Glad to have you aboard.
"No one can beat my work ethic." Love It!!!!!!
Quiet gentlemen, without a lot of hoopla and ego. Just rational assessment. I am so excited for these next few years! Coach Pete has some fine young men coming in.
And thanks for posting your videos, and asking our questions. You put the kids at ease, and that is critical for getting thoughtful answers.

Am humbled by your gratitude and kind words
Appreciate all the nice comments on here about my work. To be honest, many of the great questions came from this board. I talked to 16 different recruits that are playing at 12 different universities, so there is no way to do all that research in a short period of time. I tip my cap off to you guys (and gals).
@silas13: A job at the LA Times would be nice, but the previous owner ran it to the ground faster than McCourt did with the Dodgers. Would agree with Chris Dufresne that Boise gets screwed almost every year by the polls and will enjoy Craig James getting his butt beat in the Senate campaign like all of west Texas and I assume most of Idaho.
@USAFBronco: For Darien, think academics was one of the main reasons to back out from San Diego State. Believed he was trying to tell me that off the record with a camera recording. Gave him a quick lesson in media relations, which is never volunteer an answer to a question that isn’t ask.
@boiseblue: I try to put them at ease as much as possible for that very reason. In the video with Darien, there is an inside joke when I introduce myself. Mostly because he knows exactly who I am and the smirk was about how silly I was being at the moment. You can see the change in demeanor and that’s what brought on some great answers.

Now, Ed,
where are YOU planning to attend college? I can attest that Boise State has great Communications and English departments. Want to get in near the ground floor of a dynamic, up and coming university? Bronco Nation can use you, and you’d have a ball!

I'm an old man
Thank you for the offer but my college days are long behind me. i went to school down in the LA area about a decade ago.
Though if i get the chance, will try to make it up to Boise to interview these young men sometime during their collegiate career. Everyone here as been that great and assume that Idaho is no different.

Well, now I feel foolish
When you said, “I’m a high school sports reporter,” I jumped to the assumption that you were a sports reporter in high school. Guess I’m not used to knowing of journalistic staffs large enough to have someone devoted to just high school sports (or is that another erroneous assumption?). And when you alluded to Darien and his familiarity with you, I again assumed you were peers. Just goes to show you . . .
I hardly think you’re an old man if your college days were a mere decade ago, but that could be another assumption. No one says you have to be in your twenties to graduate from college. You might be 65, for all we know, and then you could be my peer. ;-)

It happens
Kidding about being old, I’m only 33. But when the white hairs start popping up on the mustache, it is a reminder of the inevitable.
Our site only covers high school and junior college sports. We found a niche that was lacking coverage in our area and seems to be paying off. I do break news and get exclusive interviews before some of the major newspapers and websites like rivals and scout.

Well, come to Boise long about October
and break news about how your players have made a huge impact! Taking photos of Chris and Darien on the Blue would be a fine page for the parents’ and boosters’ albums. We’d even invite you to an Obnug tailgate, as long as you leave your lens cover on :)

Ten years ago? Yea, real old, hahahahahahaha, not funny..lol
just messin with ya Ed.
If you ever wanted to see Boise St play...may be a good chance. Love em or Hate em, they are always interesting; and now, no matter where you live, "They're Coming To Your City"
Straight up OKG's !
Coaches, academics, Big East, and the people. I’m sure there was a lot more reasons for these gentleman to pick BSU, but those 4 are over the top. Kudos to their families, friends & coaches. They have obviously been hanging out with the right people, and they deserve to get an education & play football in an environment where they can continue that trend.
Thank you Ed, and if you were trying to make these guys look good, you knocked that one outta the park! (-;

COLLINS AND BARRET
These two should be a great addition to the team. Barrett changing from SDSU in the last two weeks says a lot about how good BSU is, and the fact they were interested in the academic side of the equation says a lot about the quality of young men we are getting.
Collins choosing BSU over ASU and Arizona, give us an indication of how we are looked at by young players in the LA Basin area!!!
I would call it the Titus Young effect.
His high school (University High) is about 5-10 miles from Collins and Barrett’s campuses. Young played in the wishbone out here and how Peterson was able to spot that talent and help him get to the NFL is not lost on these young men.
That’s why Boise can drop an offer a couple weeks before signing day to players on the Westside of Los Angeles and get immediate attention. Plus the move to the Big East helps a lot too.

Eh?
Or, is that “éh”?

Oops...
People should be “testee” if I misspelled the head coach’s name. My old journalism teachers would have given me an F on any assignment just for that mistake alone.

Don't worry, Ed
Or, as the younger folk like to say (much to my dismay), “No problem.” If you are able to visit Boise and see The Blue while following up on these recruits, you’ll sound like an old hand because you know how Coach Pete spells his name. Another tip, just in case: “Boi-see,” not “Boi-zee” (covering any contingency, you see).
