He was 51
Much too young but he was a big time risk taker. He was married to a great gal, too. Sad.
Time is the great equalizer.
Not the first time..
He crashed a plane in Idaho a few years ago and was ok, crashed a car in Europe in a race too, guy liked his thrills.
My father died in a plane crash when I was 3.
My prayers to Steve’s family.

It's brutal that those two stories were related. :(
Thanks for everything, Mr. Appleton.

that is a bummer.
saw that on the news feed and did a double take.
My QB has an AWARD named after him. How about yours?!

Tough to hear
Great Alumni and his gifts to this University have been more important then any other benefactor I can think of. RIP.
I wondered how long it would be before he wrecked that plane.
Sorry to hear it. RIP.

Saw this over Twitter and spent the next several minutes in disbelief
What a great man, ran Micron much like his own life. Fast paced, risky, and successful. RIP and thank you for the many gifts given to not only Boise State but groups and organizations all over Idaho.

Tragedy!
I am very depressed over this news. Bronco Nation has lost a great one, and I am so sorry for his family. I think it might be appropriate tonight at the Tailgate to have a moment of silence for one of our own. Thanks for everything, Steve.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they, too, have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexations to the spirit.
Statement from Boise State President Bob Kustra:
“Boise State lost one of its own today. A former Bronco tennis player who never forgot his alma mater, Steve graduated in business and went on to lead one of the nation’s premier companies and enrich in so many ways the community he called home. He played a critical role in transforming Boise State into a research university serving the tech economy of Idaho. I valued his friendship, his generous support, and especially the advice and counsel he provided me personally as we navigated our way through the recent recession. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dalynn, his children and his family as well as his colleagues at Micron.”

Such sad news.
He had such an affect on so many people in life and now in death. Mr. Appleton thank you for your grace.

Knew him very well in my younger years as a local tennis player…he was an amazing human being. Thankful for his life and the countless lives he touched.
