Confused about who is going where in the most recent round of musical chairs known as conference realignment? So was I so I built a spreadsheet to help me see if Boise State would be better off moving to the Big East or returning to the Mountain West.

Boise will stick with the Big East for 2013 for no other reason than the increased exposure of a BCS league as well as the bump in finances. It just does not make any sense for them to leave any time prior to the 2014 season on any level. The Big East IS a BCS conference until 2014.

Now what may happen beyond 2013 and for the 2014 season is any ones guess. Will we get an invite to the PAC 12 or Big 12? Who knows? Is the reconstituted Big East a better option than a return to the Mountain West?

My personal opinion after looking at the "Group of Five" conferences future is if we don't get an invite to the "Big Boys" table financially and competitively we would still be better situated in the reconstituted Big East. The Big East has already stated they are looking at adding up to three more teams for football and are looking west. Fresno is the most recent to be mentioned along with UNLV, Air Force and BYU.

New Mexico State has been mentioned in regards to Conference USA as well as the Sun Belt. Idaho has come up in Sun Belt discussions.

Remember, most of the conferences are locked into their media deals for several years with the exception of the Big East. The Mountain could be locked in to theirs until 2019 if CBS exercises their options.
