Boise State holds on to beat Nevada, 27-21

Just like most Boise State - Nevada games, the Broncos jumped out to a big lead, Nevada made the big lead small, and and Boise State held on at the very end (no game-winning field goals required!) to win 27-21.

The Broncos led by as much as 17-0 at halftime and as little as 27-21 with two minutes left in the game when D.J. Harper squeezed an onside kick and ran some time before Nevada's desperation drive. Matt Miller finished with his first 100-yard game of the year and the Broncos' only second half touchdown, and D.J. Harper had 100 yards and a score. Nevada's Cody Fajardo (202 passing, 81 rushing) and Stefphon Jefferson (139 yards, 2 TDs) had big games for the Wolf Pack to lead their second-half comeback.

The win gives Boise State its first Mountain West conference championship albeit a co-championship with Fresno and San Diego State.

It was over when ...

D.J. Harper recovered the onside kick with two minutes left. The ensuing three-play series ran enough time off the clock to leave the Wolf Pack with a mostly unrealistic chance for a comeback win.

Box score MVP

Matt MIller's seven catches and 127 yards seemed to all be clutch as he continually worked open for third down conversions and the one big touchdown.

Gamblers Anonymous question

Boise State was favored by nine points and won by six. So no, they didn't cover. Sorry about your money.

Up next

Boise State finds out its bowl fate tomorrow. It may be a BCS bowl if the universe has a brain fart, but it is more likely a Vegas Bowl.
