I'm not much for words, but here goes. As we all know, Boise State has the supreme master of the footballverse in Chris Petersen. We all also know that Petersen will be rumored for quite literally every opening available this year in college football.
Here's the list of openings so far, with the coach fired in parentheses. I have listed them in no particular order, and the only two that I think are a serious threat to take Petersen are Cal and (maybe) Oregon (if Kelly leaves for the NFL).
Openings (major category): Arkansas (Smith), Cal (Tedford), NC State (O'Brien), Boston College (Spaziani), Colorado (Embree), Kentucky (Philips), Purdue (Hope), Auburn (Chizik), Tennessee (Dooley).
Openings (minor category): Idaho (Akey), UTEP (Price - retired).
Up in the air: There are rumors that Illinois (Beckman) may become open just one year after firing Ron Zook, and there are rumors that Jerry Kill (Minnesota) may move to an advisory position after increasing medical complications this year (three episodes on game days).
Arkansas "sources" are CONVINCED that Petersen is a "done deal." All is quiet from the Boise State "sources." I'm convinced that no one actually knows anything until the press conference is set up.
Should Pete choose to leave, I will wish him the best. I expect that our next coach will come down to Wilcox, Harsin, Kwiatkowski, or Gregory - with Kwiatkowski being in the lead, but Gregory being the "assistant head coach" (whatever that means).
Thoughts?
