Wake up, Bronco Nation: Boise State football links and things, 1-4-12
Chris Petersen to receive new contract, $2 million per year (HT: warriorsscore110)
Boise State has requested approval from the state board of education to sign Coach Pete to a new 5 year contract at $2 million per year. It's definitely good to see Boise State being proactive in keeping Coach Pete. One interesting nugget is that Peteresen's pay will come entirely from program revenue. So no tax dollars to be used. This is is good to see the program becoming self sufficient.
Kellen Moore and George Iloka receive invites to the NFL combine
More invites are expected for Boise State players which is good because they obviously forgot about Nate Potter, Doug Martin, Shea McClellin, Billy Winn, Chase Baker, Tyrone Crawford and Kyle Efaw. Just saying.
Nick Patti throws a TD pass in Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl (HT: BSUbluNorange)
The article also mentions his height because writers feel it's necessary to remind the public that he's shorter than average. Patti was one of 4 quarterbacks rotating for his team.
Michigan beat Virginia Tech 23-20 in the Sugar Bowl
I didn't even realize that the game was being played last night until I saw the highlights this morning and I'm glad I missed it. Looked like somewhat of a sloppy game with poor special teams play and bad quarterbacking from Denard Robinson (I would love to see a 3,000 word post from Kevan dissecting Robinson's QB play and comparing it to Colin Kaepernick's. His head might explode). The game came down to a field goal in overtime that may or may not have been a false start. That's what you get, Sugar Bowl officials.

boycott successful
Between Big Bang Theory re-runs and a long quest in the fantasy realm of Skyrim, I was able to avoid the urge to watch this game. Welcome to nerd town.
Some people believe football is a matter of life and death. I'm very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that.
In a way, BSU getting the snub was a blessing in disguise for me.
i had tickets to Cirque de Soleil Michael Jackson Immortal tour (incredible by the way).
Which i would have had to try to sell if BSU had gotten that invite.
so i definitely missed it in all it’s (un)glory. though i was following it with a mixture of ESPN updates and twitter.
My QB has an AWARD named after him. How about yours?!

I was told there was an amazing pole dance.

oh hey
one other thing:
remember that time that VT got blown out in their conference championship game (to the same team that beat them earlier in the season) then they went to the Sugar bowl because they “travel so well” and, in reality, didn’t and then lost said Sugar bowl game?
Yeah.
Me too.
I wonder if we’ll see VT89 talk about a kicker moment again.

I got nothing but respect for Justin Meyer
Great kid who did great in a tough situation. He missed the kick in OT, but it should never have gone to OT. He is a man’s man with a great beard.
got nothin' but love for VT
It wasn’t your fault BSU got snubbed. Sorry it didn’t go your way this time, good luck next year.

Virginia Tech and Michigan in Sugar Bowl
They cut into the channel I was watching to show VaTech’s QB running backwards, changing and 2nd and goal into a 3rd and 26. And I watched half the 4th quarter and OT against my own intentions. It was a comedy of errors, including that VaTech made a touchdown in overtime (at least the camera, the commentators, and I thought it looked that way, that was recalled to set up the loss.
Most important thing, our seniors seemed to be truly enjoying the Maaco Bowl.
Did anyone else notice we got the top-of-the-line commentators, not the Sugar Bowl?
Nessler > Musberger by a mile
and I’m a fan of Brent. But Nessler is the best in the biz.
Is it just me...
or is this Chris Pete’s 3rd contract restructer in the last 12 months?
No football in the kcam household last night
None. Like many here, I hope it was a ratings disaster and cost the Sugar Bowl a lot of money. (As if on the money aspect…)
The battle for hierarchy is more intense the lower the class.
Only bowl I watched was the MAACO
Only watched BSU’s regular season games as well. I am odd I guess.
BSU don't need smoke and mirrors to get the job done, they got orange pants.
Nick Patti - Finger Licking Good...
I flipped through the dvr to find the drive that Patti put together to score a touchdown in that Semper Fidelis game. I’ve got to say that I was impressed by his mobility and accuracy with the rock on the move. My only issue was just how much that kid licks his fingers during play. Will take some getting used to if he makes it in a starting role at BSU, but that kid definately has potential.
I boycotted as well...
I spent the evening with my daughter and family at my sister’s highschool basketball games. Only reason I even checked the score is because I had pick’em points riding on the game lol.
Also I must add two things, I’m thrilled that we’re upping Coach Pete’s salary. I wasn’t worried about losing him before but now I’m fairly confident he’s sticking around for a while.
One last thing, about the combine… according to Mr. Winn (via Facebook/Twitter, haven’t called him yet and verified) he received an invite to the combine the other day. That is all folks.

Maybe this will shut up the speculation about Pete going elsewhere
I feel honored and blessed that I will continue to lead this football team. I appreciate the support of the administration and Bronco Nation, and I’m excited about the continued growth of this program.

We sorta (sorta!) feel the same way, Coach.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they, too, have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexations to the spirit.

No we are the ones who are blessed, to have such a great coach\ human being, leading our young men.
I'm the 12 th man its my job its my duty.
Looks like I may be in the minority...
…but I actually thought it was a fairly exciting game. I watched it in between periods of parading my 6 week-old around the house in an effort to get her to sleep (mostly a big FAIL, btw). Admittedly, my overall perception may have been altered by the fact that the BCS games to this point, God help us all, have been really competitive. Normally, I don’t like things that are sure to make the cartel happy but… here we are.
Radio Sour
thankfully I had a long soccer practice with my son last night but did tune in to the Sour Bowl on the radio coming home. Was shocked to hear McDonough and Millen doing the game, after they had just done the Fiesta Bowl on TV the night before. Weird.
Sounds like Beamer ball was not at its best last night. Everybody is giving VT a hard time for being there but MI needed a chance to beat somebody. BSU would have buried them. Instead you get a dramatic poorly played comic opera. Nice
Sugar Bowl was a fantastic game. Even though we lost, I'm sure the Sugar Bowl committee is more than happy with their selection.
In fact, all the BCS games thus far have been really really good.
Good for them
Prostitutes like having a good night as well, I’d imagine.

Uh. Yeah. More than happy.
Shame they couldn’t fill those empty 12,000 seats, though.

The sad thing is
Since those seats were paid for, they couldn’t care less.

These shots aren’t at VT. They’re directed at the Sugar Bowl Committee. VT is a fine school, but we think there were a couple more deserving teams who would have taken Michigan to the woodshed.

Pete Gets Smurf Punched and A Raise

Congratulations Coach Petersen On Your Raise: I appreciate you and your assistants hard work. I thank Idaho for this recognition. Its difficult to have a private life; having everyone know what you get paid, where you go, who you talk to and still keep the young men on track. They represent the heart of Boise State. You represent the heart of this nation. I hope and pray for the best for you and your family in 2012.
