Questions for Boise State Committs Chris Collins and Darien Barrett
I'm a high school sports reporter covering Boise State commits WR Chris Collins and CB Darien Barrett signing day ceremonies tomorrow. I will be interviewing them after they sign their letters of intent and would like to know if any of the Bronco faithful had any specific questions they wanted asked. Inglewood's ceremony (Barrett) is at 9:00 a.m. and Santa Monica's (Collins) is at 2:30 p.m.
You can email me the question at Ed [at] SportsJournalLA [dot] com or leave a comment on this post and I'll check in the morning before I go to the events.
Thanks,
Ed Gonzalez

Playing time expectations
I’d like to know if there have been any discussion with the coaches about redshirting their first year or if they’ve been told there are spots available to them to contribute their first year.
Interesting Question
That’s why I posted on here. Don’t think that would have crossed my mind tomorrow. Its a really good question. Keep them coming.

The obvious one is what won them over on Boise St.
but I figure you got that one covered already.
How do they feel about the mental side of football, what is their favorite aspect? i.e. Technique for the position, offensive/defensive strategies, film study, knowing the entire playbook. These are the things that can really separate a student-athlete from his competition because it leads to more football speed on the field.
What is each young man’s view on the team aspect of football? Does he enjoy the camaraderie, the fact it takes 11 guys to make a play successful, support and accountability? Boise St. is probably one of the most family oriented teams in college. Guys here forge a unique kind of bond that comes from the whole Us Against the World mentality bred here.
Lastly, I would like to know if these young men have thought about the revolutionary aspect of Boise St. I’m not trying to overblow it but there is a definitive feeling of fighting the man so to speak here at BSU. Knowing that BSU has been shut out (unfairly according to many) of top tier bowls lately, does this aspect defying the odds and tearing down the caste system appeal to them at all?
I know these guys are pretty young so some of that may not even have occured to them. If you think any of those questions are worth asking, I’m sure you can come up with some better wording lol. FYI; I know at least one of the Texas recruits has openly said he likes the revolution theme surrounding Boise St. so there’s some precedent there.

I'm really sorry
I’ve been fighting a nasty strain of the Flu since Saturday. I’m just now getting over the virus and I’m still a little loopy from the medicine and lack of sleep lol. I’m normally not so inconsiderate adn I wasn’t meaning to be when I wrote that. I just didn’t even think about it I guess. There was only 1 reply when I checked it and the guy was going to be looking back at, like, 9am our time I think. Anyhoo, apologies for not being more aware. :)

pj, the best thing for finishing off a nasty flu...
is a hefty shot of Dr. Daniels Fantasy Elixir. At the Ram. And don’t worry about writing too much. If folks get tired of reading, they can teach their eyes to scroll. Besides, it looks to me like ItIsTime was teasing you, anyway. Some folks are succint (kcam), some have a dramatic flair (SenorChef), and you, pj, have a wealth of expertise. How you got it, I don’t know, because if I recall correctly, you aren’t a Mongo/Karras double. I hope to hear your story on Friday!

"some have a dramatic flair (SenorChef)"
bb, you’ve been channeling A. Thomas Trusky, of late the director of the Hemingway Center, under whom I studied creative writing 41 years ago. I remember him writing across my papers in big red pencil, “(melo)dramatic, sir.” I know, it’s a part of my style, and I still struggle with it after all these years.
Mr. Trusky was such a powerful influence on my life, and the university (and the world) is a poorer place without him. He left us too soon, too soon.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they, too, have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexations to the spirit.
Tom was an influence in many lives...
a friend of mine teaches English and Lit at CSI, and was Idaho’s writer in residence a while back. He was/is a huge Trusky fan. He started BSU in 1970, graduated in 74?.
Were you there when Dr. Gould was teaching?more to discuss Friday.

OKG's
Coach Pete is known for recruiting what he calls “Our Kinda Guys;” did he give you any indication what makes you an OKG?
Better to have play a mid-level schedule and potentially be the best team in the nation, than to play and lose on a hard schedule and remove all doubt.

I like this question.
"Kellen Moore has shown the difference between best in the SEC & and best in the Nation" - pjohn56
"I'm tired of even the BCS name" Coach Petersen
Are they exited about playing on & becoming one with "the blue"?
As an athlete, it is a unique experience shared only at Boise St.
If you ever wanted to see Boise St play...may be a good chance. Love em or Hate em, they are always interesting; and now, no matter where you live, "They're Coming To Your City"
Ask about their thoughts on the Campus.
IE: Along side a river, Miles of Greenbelt paths, and of the coarse the blue turf.

Ask them if they are grateful not to be drunk vandulls, falling out of windows.

What position were they recruited to play at Boise State?
"Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth." - Mike Tyson
do they expect dollar menu items, sleeping on couches and old cars to borrow?
kidding of course.
what sort of “impact” did the violations and the NCAA ruling had on their perception of Boise State? are they concerned with future problems or were they comforted by what the coaches had to tell them?
My QB has an AWARD named after him. How about yours?!
Moore’s effortless dissection of the defense in...practice reminded coaches why he’s here, despite his much-maligned measurables. --Chadd Cripe

Thanks for hitting us up ed!!
Good looking out. Hopefully we will be hearing a lot more from you in the future!
Will post the Interviews shortly
Want to thank everyone on this board for the great questions for Chris and Darien.
The one question I didn’t not ask on camera was on the impact did the NCAA violations, mainly cause it had little to no effect on their decision. Both of the offers came late and in case of Darien, he was looking to travel after decommitting from San Diego State.
Would say the move to the Big East and the history of Titus Young is a bigger motivator in the perception of Boise State out here in than anything else. Young went to University High School, just a couple of miles from these schools, and was a receiver in the wishbone before moving on to Boise. For him to switch styles and make it to the next level is something both of them are aware of.
I’m going to post the videos in a new message and hope you enjoy them. The only request I will make is to watch the entire video before the interviews start, its one of the ways I make money and am able to do this kind of work.
Thanks

BRONCO RECRUITS
I would think that the city of Boise would have an impact on why they cose BSU. A river runs through the city, almost a stones throw from the stadium, with the Green Belt running right along side it. It is not in a bad part of LA, where you have to worry if you will be attacked walking back from the 7-11, or in the case of SDSU, Way out on Montezuma Mesa, with all of the malls, and all ten miles away.
After I was injured on the police department and forced to retire, on disibility, I needed to find another line of work. I had sued the city over their requirement that a police officer be able to perform “all” duties required. I was a traffic enforcement and AIB (Accident Investigation Board ) officer and was considered an expert. I wanted them to keep me on as Hit and Run officer, but that one statement “all duties required” was the hang up. I won my suit, but they were mad because I dared question them, so they wouldn’t make it retroactive. They only gave me 50%, and that time $400 wasn’t going to do much.
I went to Grossmont Community college for three semester’s then transfered to state. I had to ride the bus 15 miles, one way to get to and from SDSU. If you wanted to go any place in SD, in the 70’s, you went by bus. I think, with the BSU campus right in the middle of town, the environment would be a BIG issue, and getting around, is much easier than SD. Plus, I believe the serenity of the campus, The City Of Trees, Bogus Basin 15 miles away, choice fishing a short walk, that all of these things added up to Wow! what a great place to go to school. I remember watching one game a few years ago, that was on National T V, and the cameraman spotted a guy fishing on the river, and he was reeling in a salmon. What a college environment. Montana, with the Gallatin running by the stadium comes close, but BSU is the only Div.1 school like ours.
I did catch one comment, by Darien that academics was part of the reason. I thought, “Wow, a recruit talking about academics as a reason to choose BSU” I think we will see more and more of that, as the academic program gets better and wider. BSU has a very wide degree of majors that a student can choose, in an environment that can’t be beat. Chris Collins, I think, was heading for ARIZ. or ASU. The desert doesn’t make a good drawing card to me. Yeah! They are close to everything in Phoenix and Tucson, but it gets awful hot in the summer months. I would rather be on the BSU campus than the middle of the desert. Just sayin!

Not always. I used to ride the liberty launch (LCVP) across the bay from Coronado Amphib Base to 32nd Street. It was a more direct route, and free. ;-)

QUESTION FOR SENIOR CHIEF
I saw your picture on the Tailgate Get Together post.
You look quite young for a Senior Chief. If you did it in the mimimum amount of time, to retire, you must be one Smart Guy! Just Sayin.

Larry, that was ME you were looking at. :)

AZTEC/BRONCO
You are a pretty good looking dude, for being retired. You wear your age well!
I did my time during Viet Nam, then got discharged in the middle of it, and bcame a police officer. I don’t think I am as bright as you. I just changed the employer who paid me for getting shot at. Viet Nam was not a nice place even on board ship. I was on a destroyer and we cruised the Tonkin Gulf, fighting PT boats, or cruised the Mekong Delta giving close shore fire support. I was with the DASH program, and we refueled Search and Rescue helocopters. Didn’t like some of the things we had to do, but that is war.
I was lucky enough to have four alma maters. The Navy, once a sailor always a sailor! The police department. I really enjoyed being an acccident investigator, even though some of the scenes were grusome! San Diego State, and Boise State. BUT, even though I was an Aztec fan ( I got to watch every run Marshall Faulk made while he was there ), I still had to check and see how Idaho schools were doing, who they played and whether they won or not. When Idaho came down there to play, I was at the game. That was a hard one to choose who to root for, but when we played SDSU last fall, I was rooting for the Broncos, all the way. I am a total Bronco Fandomaniac now.
Coach Pete has taken our program from very good, under Hawk, to national recognition. People keep saying we are going down the tubes, BUT there are least three coaches that wish they were in his shoes right now, Nutt, Koetter, and Hawk. If you notice, some of them are coming back home, Robert Prince, and glad to be back with the Broncos.
I will try and get over for the next one, my daughter is a Bronco Fandomaniac, and I can get her to drive. I don’t drive very well because of my back, and the restrictions I have, but I will sure make a Bronco try at getting there. That is a good looking trio ! I can just imagine what fun it was. OH! I knew Duke Cunningham when I was in San Diego. He WAS the one they made Top Gun after! However, the Cmdr has that grin that all good pilots have. Just sayin!
