Darien Bennett, Dylan Cozens choosing between Boise State, lamer teams on Wednesday
The last two days have seen a man mountain and former UCLA commit choose the Broncos and an Oregon State offer and two-way all-Oregon lineman pick Boise State. What wonders are in store for the final 48 hours of the signing period?
Well, if reports are to be believed, two defensive ends will make their college choice tomorrow on Signing Day, and Boise State could land both of them.
DE Darien Barrett from Inglewood High in California is expected to announce his decision tomorrow morning, according to his coaches. The choice is between San Diego State and Boise State, so sunshine or inversions, fish tacos or finger steaks, Sea World or Wahooz, the high ceiling of a Poinsettia Bowl or potential national championships. Rivals reported that he had already chosen Boise State. Other sites have him listed as an Aztec. OBNUG is pretty sure Rivals has it right, so we went ahead and posted a welcome FanShot to Barrett earlier in the week.
Barrett is 6'3", 220 pounds and a consensus three-star player. Here is video of him looking tall and fast and intimidating as a stand-up defensive end and all-around QB nuisance.
DE Dylan Cozens from Chapparral High in Scottsdale, Arizona, is the other potential future Bronco who will be announcing his decision tomorrow. Cozens has Arizona, Washington, and Boise State on his mind. The Arizona Republic says that Cozens is leaning toward Boise State since the Broncos were his first offer and apparently called dibs.
Cozens will announce his decision at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow on FoxSportsArizona.com via webcast. Oh, for the days of AOL Instant Messenger announcements.
For what it's worth, Cozens has loads of football potential having only played one year of organized football. That one year was good enough for him to three-star recruit stats, be named the No. 48 DE in the country per Scout.com, and have enough highlights of jacking up quarterbacks to warrant his own YouTube video.
Your turn
What do you think of these potential future Broncos? Will Boise State land them both? Which one are you more excited about? Share your thoughts in the comments.

How many
DEs for one recruiting class is too many? If we land both, that is 4 DEs, 3 of them with 5 years to play 4. It would be a shame to see any of these guys ride the bench as all of them have talent. I understand we need to have a full stable, but how many is too many? I honestly don’t know, which is why I am asking lol.
We love rotating DE's anyways.
Ex. McClellin, Winn, Crawford, Tjong-a-tjoe, Baker. We’ve been frequently rotating in DE’s since 2006 with Mike Williams first starting coming in during rush packages. I’m sure all will be used. Being able to rush fresh legs will wear out opposing O-Lines. I’m excited for this group!

Second this
That is an awesome strategy that I know for a fact was implemented by the Dallas Cowboys at the NFL level and was credited as the #1 reason they were able to edge San Francisco to reach the first of three Super Bowls.
Some of these guys may wind up at DT and some may wind up at LB as well.

A big fat shoutout to the Cowboys and the Broncos
Cowboys/Broncos – funny how fundamentally these teams go hand in hand….
Both are America’s teams baby! That’s right, I said it!
Way to go on the recruiting front Pete!

By the way
I Gotta third this.
You can never have too many Dlineman. Both lines are the most important players on any squad.. Fortify the lines with solid depth and talent and suddenly the all other players (both the O skill-personnel and LB’s/ secondary) improve dramatically; no QB is gonna play worth a crap if he doesn’t have protection, and DB’s are gonna get roasted non-stop unless you have pressure.
Keep bringing in the trench-men Pete!!!
"Your compliment was sufficient Lewis."
I get the feeling...
that kid from England might be convert to DT anyway since he’s almost up to 280 pounds! (Not sure if that accurate information though) That is one big lad for being a incoming freshman DE.

Aw, that's only 440 bucks then. I guess he needs that scholarship.

I'm sure some of these guys are being looked at for more than just DE.
6’3" 220lbs is sounding more like an LB. Of course after a redshirt season in the weight room he’ll be up to 250-260 range. But I would say theyll use all of these guys much like McClellin and Hout (Stand-up or hand-in-the-dirt). McClellin played in coverage several times this season and he and Hout moved around a lot, I think they have a defensive scheme in mind, much like the Nickelbacker.

What kind of defensive scheme you're thinking about?
If Bsu plan to use that hybrid DE/OLB, I could see them going back to 4-3 scheme but with five d-linemen.

There were several games this year that the DE stood up and even played coverage on certain plays. I beliebe Boise State called it "STUD".
Also there were times Hout would come up to the edge and pass rush. The scheme is debatable I guess, I was just pointing out that these recruits maybe be recruited for more than the positions they play in high school.

look at our depth on the defensive and offensive lines….I believe its one of the big reasons for the step BSU has taken in being a power every season….10 years ago, if we lost a starter, we didn’t have another really good replacement, and it showed….now we can plug and move…and rest, and we are a stronger team for it……depth is not a bad thing…ask LSU or Alabama…BSU starters can compare and go up against anybodies 1st team….but most major BCS 3rd teams could probably start for BSU
What?
BSU starters can compare and go up against anybodies 1st team….but most major BCS 3rd teams could probably start for BSU
Therefore most BCS 3rd teamers could go up against anybodies first team? Don’t know what you were trying to say there.
I don’t think there is one 3rd teamer in all of college football who would’ve started for BSU last year.

I agree on the line depth
I think you lost it a bit at the end there. I would say most BCS 3rd teamers could beat our 3rd teamers. But I don’t think they could start for us, we’ve come too far for that. In some very few cases, they might be able to make 2nd string for us (LSU is stacked at CB for example), but that’s as far as that goes.

Sounds like the Nascar Package the NY Giants Use
The NY Giants often use 4 DE at the same time. They call it Nascar. They put the 4 most athletic pass rushers in on the same play. We saw a dramatic decrease in QB pressure and sack numbers. We could be looking at ways to get both those catagories up. That would also help our secondary.
Kevan, pick up the Lapray Phone!
We desperately need his dulcet prose to lure these young men to Bronco Nation. Legion.
Time is the great equalizer.
Cozens looks like an animal
It’s hard to believe that he’s only played football one year. If we get 4 DE’s in this class, it’s probably pretty safe to assume that the coaching staff is looking to play a true frosh this year at the position. Unless, they are looking to convert a couple to OLB as was pointed out earlier. Either way, these guys are sometimes the most athletic players on the team and I don’t care if we get 6 of them, as long as they’re willing to play where and when they’re needed.

Title should read:
choosing between Boise State and lame teams
not lamer teams! My BSU Broncos are not lame! :)
Signing day…do we dare start a signing day thread? where’s my security pillow?

Petersen's Broncos vers 7.1 roll out in just one day.
I can’t wait for the suite (sweet) of tools dispatched on hapless opponents for the up coming years. Just when 20 seniors leave and three coaches want to mow grass on side of the fence, a fire storm of talent arrive from coaching and players.

Let the new
era begin. This will be (I hope ) a epic. time for BSU football.
Cozens looks like....
he can start as a true freshman. Barrett looks like he’ll redshirt. Which isn’t a back thing.

Which means...
he’s still a front seat rider. That I’m not forcing him to go to the back.

D.J. Harper granted 6th year of eligibility
Not sure if this has been mentioned on here or not.
Boise State Football
The NCAA has officially granted running back D.J. Harper a sixth-year waiver extension. Harper gained 557 yards and scored 9 TDs last year.

They are both good...
just in different ways. Barrett is much more technically sound (as he should be since he has probably played more than one year of organized football). He holds his gap and reads the play. Cozens is just a crazy athlete. He plays like the Wide 9 technique like the Lions or Eagles do. He just rushes upfield and backtracks to the ball if need be.
I would say Barrett may get more time at the beginning, but Cozens will be a great player if he can harness that speed.
Woohoo...signing day is here!
So excited, I can’t sleep! lol I’m sure we’re all amped about today, hope the few undecided players…Barrett and Cozens make the right decision! Or else they’ll be turning BLUE with envy. lol Have a great day everyone..and GO BRONCOS!!!
So what's his name?
Barrett or Bennett? I’m seeing it both ways in this post.
