Who’s been keeping a secret?

Nick Patti, that’s who. Seems he’s responsible for getting George Kenneth "Trey" Griffey III (yes, that’s Ken Griffey Jr’s kid) a scholarship at Arizona (at least that’s my take). According to this article, interest from colleges started to heat up after his senior season at Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando, FL. where he set records for receptions and receiving yards in a game and a season. Of course, who was at the starting end of those records...our own Nick Patti. I’m sure he’s too humble to brag, but could he have at least tipped us off that he was throwing to a surefire Baseball Hall of Famer’s son? Think of some random possibilities (past, present, and future):

  • The offense, the defense, the cheerleaders, and the marching band from Dr. Phillips High School eating their pre-game meals at the Griffey’s.
  • Ken Griffey Jr. manning the BBQ during the JV games to raise money for the Dr. Phillips football booster club.
  • Nick talks Trey into coming to Boise State with him in a package deal, by telling him he’ll actually win games and play on national TV (after red shirting this year because he doesn’t want to waste a year of eligibility playing on the Mtn Network).
  • "The Kid", his wife, and their other two kids sitting in the parent’s section in Bronco Stadium between the Miller and the Burroughs families for a year.
  • "Patti to Griffey...and that’s another Bronco FIRST DOWN!!!!"
  • "The Kid", his wife, and their other two kids donating lots o’ greenbacks to build an addition to the luxury suites so the families of the players can sit in style before their second year.
  • Fill in your lame KTVB/Idaho Statesman Griffey pun here _______ .
  • "The Kid", his wife, and their other two kids donating enormous mounds of cash to expand Bronco Stadium to hold 100,000 screaming Bronco fans before their third year.
  • Spring training in Orlando anyone?
  • Moore to Griffey. Kirby gets the monkey off his back by finally completing a pass. Of course the pass looks the same as his last one but Griffey channels his inner Jr. and goes up and over the defense like his Dad going over the wall to rob a hitter of a home run.
  • "The Kid", his wife, and their other two kids break the bank to buy a sound system for Bronco Stadium so we can actually understand what’s being said before their fourth year. OK, that’s just pure fantasy, but everything else is a real possibility.

Maybe I'm just making it up...

but I thought I heard that Patti did try to get Griffey to come to Boise…

You go where they're interested in you.

As far as I know, Boise State showed no interest in Griffey, famous last names aside.

ABOUT FRIGGIN TIME!

This is huge news. Milk as much info as you can out of him, now that’d be fanpost worthy

by BSUbluNorange on Jan 25, 2012 9:50 AM PST up reply actions

no kidding.

it is either garbled, scratchy, or deafening, or all of the above. Pathetic.
And while I’m being whiney, could we see some scores/yardages/time-out info rather than being hit on the head with multiple Les Schwab/BOE ads?
And I’d like a seat that was mine, you know, with an arm rest and a cup holder…
Speaking of seats, a heated toilet seat would be dandy, too. Maybe that is over the top, but I’m serious about the other amenities.

probably

won’t get that individual seat. I can’t think of any colleges that have “all seater” stadiums. Why? Less people. Less people = less $.

well then

let’s just get us an NFL team to home-base here…like SDSU does. What would be wrong with that? :)

lack of support?

A lot of college teams with NFL teams in the same city don’t have the fan base that “college towns” do.

oh, I'm sure you are right.... and who wants the traffic jams and angry losers....

It’s just that I so want my own seat w/wo arm rest. Big guys in their winter garb can cover two sets of numbers, easyily. So skinny gals are expected to sit on one cheek. No Fair! I paid for my seat and I want to hog my own 12.5 inches. Told you I could whine with the best of them. :)

If we're doing Bronco Stadium requests...

I wouldn’t mind doing away with the urinal troughs on the east side. I feel pretty comfortable with my manhood and all but not THAT comfortable.

I'll never forget during the Oregon game

Someone had dumped a boatload of yellow rubber ducks in those troughs. I actually felt sorry for some of the Oregon fans who had to use the facility. (But that’s not to say I didn’t quietly chuckle.)

Haha

I remember walking up to the bathroom and seeing 2 Oregon fans walking out with really pissed off looks on their faces… I felt kinda bad for them too but I had a pretty good laugh once I realized why they were so angry,,,

when will we see a new TV screen?

The current one sucks. Need better resolution, brighter to beat the glare and letterbox format. and bigger. much bigger.

by ElPepeGrande on Jan 25, 2012 10:18 AM PST up reply actions

Hate to say it....

but Bronco Stadium has this one of many flaws. The screen can’t be any larger because that would require it extending upward. The problem you ask? The fact that the lower level extends so far underneath the upper deck makes viewing the current screen from those seats barely possible. The possible solution, adding screens under the upper decks to make up for the fans that wouldn’t be able to see the larger screen. But yes we need a new screen.

by timbob on Jan 25, 2012 12:35 PM PST up reply actions

As long as we're dreaming.

I say get the Jerry Jones type screen hanging over the 50 yd line. Those people under the deck, bummer, but hey, they are out of the snow and rain.

Very True...

Im not sure any one in the athletic administration knows what to do to the stadium. The plans have changed so many times for additional seating and the new facilities. On a side note and don’t know if it was part of future plans or whatever… but when they built the skybox they installed the lighting structures out of line with the lights on the east side of the stadium. The spacing between the middle 2 lights on the west side is 2x the spacing of the middle 2 lights on the east side….. meaning that the light on the northwest corner is on the goal line, while the lights on the other corners are over the 10 yrd lines. I’v always thought maybe they would end up sliding the field 5 yds to the north to make for better sight lines for filling in the south ez. Anyone ever notice this besides me? sorry to be so knit picky but when you see the stadium everyday and can see it from your office you begin to notice stuff like this.

Part of the college of engineering…. only they dumb a lot of stuff down for us! But seriously not that you actually care but next time you are in the stadium you will notice they don’t match… and you will for ever after… kinda like when you you learn there is an arrow hidden in the FedEx logo (http://images.fedex.com/images/c/t1/gf/logo-footer-fedex.gif ) ;-)
