I am glad to get someone from the NFL ranks
"It's kind of like getting your first kiss, times a thousand" - Matt Miller
This kind of just shows why Coach Pete believes players will like him:
OCTOBER 2011 – Tampa Bay’s defensive backs coach, Jimmy Lake, injured himself during the Buccaneers’ 26-20 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Coming into this game the Bucs had just two interceptions. In this game against the Saints they had a season high three picks and those interceptions were worth celebrating. However, one of those celebrations came at a cost to Lake.
Lake injured his patella tendon during his celebration of an interception by Tanard Jackson in the second quarter. The injury will require surgery which he will undergo once the team returns from London. When asked about his injury he kind of brushed it off.
"I am feeling fine," Lake said. "I am feeling fine. It is just stiffer than anything. I got the Cadillac Williams injury. It is the patella tendon. I will have surgery right when I get back from London."
With Lake not being able to be on the sidelines for the remainder of the game, the team turned to veteran player Ronde Barber to assist in the relaying of information to the defense on the field. Barber was seen on the field wearing a headset after the injury to Lake. According to Barber, he was not play-calling, but rather just relaying the calls of what coach said in his ear to his teammates.
"I wasn’t really in there play calling," Barber said. "When Jimmy went down [and] we don’t really have another secondary coach – we got some guys that have been there for a couple months, but nobody that can talk in front of the room. I have done plenty of talking in front of our room [and] I spend an enormous amount of time with Jimmy so I know what he is going to say. I wasn’t calling plays I was really just relaying the information. Wearing another hat for the defense and just helping him out because he had to go up to the box. He couldn’t stand on the sideline."
Lake had nothing but praise for his unit and admitted to getting excited when playing such a team.
"Yes, not supposedly they are," Lake said. "They are the best third down offense in the National Football League. I have a lot of respect for Sean Payton—the best play caller in the NFL. They have Drew Brees who is obviously a pro bowl quarterback. It gets me juiced up and it gets our guys juiced up to go out and face the best because we want to be the best."

I wonder how big Coach Petersen’s card file is right now?

Every move Coach Pete makes just makes me go wow, Can not what to see what all the new guys add…

Who wouldn't want to play for coach Pete?
kind of a springboard to the big time…and a great education from the greatest leader in the game. Outstanding news.
Not bad
I’m glad to see he coaches well at both the college and NFL levels as it gives him diversity and versatility.
Hopefully....
he has these kids prepared, Freshman or not. Hope to see a lot of good coming from this. But we will see.
'Trust me, i can protect myself. I'm a Boise State Broncos Football fan.'
Yeah see...
That’s where I think we need to temper our expectations.
There are a lot of young (and by young i mean 18-yr-olds still homesick for mama) kids in the DB corps, a brand new coach… Just lots and lots of newness.
These are boys. They are now in big-boy football, are in college classes where professors maayyyyybeee care about you, are learning about college women, which are a totally different creature from high school girls…. The list goes on…
Maybe nobody remembers the rough stones we saw in Jeron or George when they were freshmen/sophomore? Iloka was regularly getting beat on double moves – I was nervous every time he stepped on the field.
So let’s color our high expectations of these boys (and their new coach) with patience, forgiveness, some humility in recognition of our own stellar performances as 18 year old punks, and give them the chance to grow into men.

fond remembrances of your stellar performances as an 18 year old, eh, kcam...lol
Jeesh, the chagrin I should have felt then, and wish I didn’t feel now.
Blorange nailed it for immaturity issues, imo. It isn’t a negative, it’s a phase. Like still having those “puppyfeet”. Getting athletes pointed in the right direction, while learning the playbook and strength conditioning…our coaches are heros.

chuckle... no rioting here
One does not tase cam unless one is prepared for a most mockifying gif-file in response. As I am not sure I could cope with such mockification given my lack of reading comprehensionability I have removed the batteriness from my tasifier.
BB captured my intent. I would just add, at the risk inherent to speaking one’s mind, there are those on this (and other fora), who had all sorts of negative things to say about the coaching this season and seem to be setting themselves up for another such season… “Freshman or not”? It’s like we forget these are bw teenagers with not-yet-fully-formed brains. Dude — when I was a freshman – it was all I could do to keep my tongue in my head around all those college women. And they wanted me to THINK too? Wasn’t happenin’.
I can hear it now – “Why back in Coach Harsin’s day, we averaged 52 first downs per game, had 600 yards passing and 300 yards rushing with nothing but redshirt freshmen up hill both ways in the snow against Bear Bryant teams.”
Not that I am ever given to hyperbole, or anything like that.

Glass half full.
Jerrell Gavins will be back and he was really impressive last year until the injury. Jamar Taylor will be back as well and prior to his injury was playing at a high level. Lee Hightower made some hits that made my teeth hurt…as a true frosh…and some other youngsters got a lot of valuable PT. Call me crazy, but the secondary just might be the strength of the defense next year. Far less decimated than the D-line.

Blorange...
I wont temper my expectations. This all stems from when I criticized the coaches for this last year. Trust me, I wasn’t the only one. In fact, I heard a lot more complaints then I ever have since I’ve been a BSU fan. Especially when it was inexcusable. Bitting on pump fakes? If you can’t correct that as a coach, then you should be able to take the criticism. It’s one thing if the cornerback biting on the pump fake has proven him self. But its another when your a freshman consistently biting on them. Cause we all know proven cornerbacks get fooled once, but rarely over and over again. You can sit there and say the girls on campus are the reason they can’t hurry and contribute, I say it’s the coaches fault. Your saying that a player needs play time to get prepared for them to compete. I say red-shirtiing should be enough. You can sit there and pat failure on the back all you want. While I point it out.
'Trust me, i can protect myself. I'm a Boise State Broncos Football fan.'
Pointing from a cushy chair I Might add...
…and frankly that’s the one thing that drives me batty about fellow fans… Even Nuggies. All the pointing we do. Part of my love for this silly, violent game, and these kids who play it, is my appreciation for how unreasonably hard it is to play even marginally well. The complete lack of perspective is mind-numbing. Do we not remember Setensich (sp?) or Hall? Have we forgotten the half-rack dUI through down on BSU? I played my college ball for a perennial loser… Nobody in this valley has even seen bad coaching. We have an embarrassment of riches here in Boise and yet we have the temerity to criticize it as lacking in sufficient luster.
I am sure you never bit on a pump fake, and that you never missed a tackle or a block… And that none of us will ever measure up to your perfectly reasonable expectations of perfection. I can tell you I am glad you weren’t my coach… I may have graded out well on many plays, but I never made a perfect play. I am fairly certain I have never done ANYTHING perfectly in my entire life. But I’m okay with that because I got up the next play, and did a little better. I get up every morning now, and do a little better than I did yesterday (albeit more slowly and with more drooling).
I just kills me to watch these kids make mistakes… Mostly because I know how sucky it feels. To a kid there is not much worse in the world than letting your team or your coach down.
Maybe it looks like patting failure on the back to you – but the middle-aged crippled fat dude down the aisle from you calls it an “E” for Effort. Yeah, it’s still an error… But did they learn from their mistake? (That is a Coach Pete mantra in every post-game interview. And his mini-me adopted it for his own.) These kids DID learn… Which is why I’m pretty sure they got a chance to keep playing.
So you keep pointing out other people’s failures from your nice throne of perfection in the stands. Just pray there’s no Damoclean thread hanging over your head.
Me? I’m gonna rejoice when these kids play at a level I only ever dreamed of. And when they crash and burn, I’m gonna be there to cheer and pick them up and and dust them off and send them back in. College ball rocks BECAUSE of its imperfection.

What....
are you talking about? Who said I want absolute perfection if not they shouldn’t be given a second chance? Who said I’m blaming these players? Your putting words in my mouth. This is why I hate when you reply on my comments. You always accuse me of something completely off subject. I’m sitting here saying the coach needs to do a better job coaching and getting them better prepared. Your saying I’m blaming the players? That’s the problem with some of you people on here. You want to win an argument so bad, you go off subject or put words in people’s mouths. I’m one of the Bronco’s biggest fans, but I’m also their biggest critic. If you don’t like it, Tough.
'Trust me, i can protect myself. I'm a Boise State Broncos Football fan.'
And let me...
make it clear to your blind eyes. When I said, ‘red-shirting them should be enough’ I mean enough time for the COACHES to get them prepared. And when I said, ‘freshman consistently biting on them’ I meant to put red-shirt freshmen. Ok? I know you’ll probably use those as examples
'Trust me, i can protect myself. I'm a Boise State Broncos Football fan.'
Didn't mean to press the send button just let.
Of what you say I’m saying. But if you push your hate aside. You would see that. I’ve never blamed the players, NEVER!!! Even when we were arguing about me criticizing the coaches. Ok?
'Trust me, i can protect myself. I'm a Boise State Broncos Football fan.'
And what YOU are not getting...
is that you ARE using mistakes by PLAYERS as evidence of poor coaching. How can you not follow the logic?
Premise 1 = Players with good coaching do not make mistakes.
Premise 2 = These players made mistakes.
Conclusion = Therefore, these players do not have good coaching.
That is exactly your flow of reasoning, and there is no putting of words into your mouth. I am arguing with your first premise – it is false.
… these kids make mistakes because they are kids. They make as ridiculously few mistakes as they do BECAUSE of their coaching, rather than in spite of it.
Calling you on your inability to grasp syllogistic reasoning is not hate. Disagreeing with you, yes. Maybe even inappropriate mockery – that bad is on me.
Have some confidence man. I don’t hate you. I don’t even hate your idea. But in the realm of free and spirited debate, I do think it is appropriate to use all my powers of rhetoric (re: my Louisville Slugger vs. Senior Chief’s obsidian scalpel) to disagree with you to the end of making us (in my view only – I don’t expect anyone to agree with me) an even better fan base.
My larger issue is with our culture of hyper-criticism. Rather than say, “boy, that player really screwed up, his coaches stink,” or “wow Senator Blinkenstein you really screwed up that vote last week – you’re a terrible senator”, why can’t we focus on and celebrate what the coaching staff did great at?
All my years coaching and refereeing young people (both boys and girls) as a volunteer has taught me that the adults in the US are largely unreasonable in their expectations of sports performance (and I extend my observation to life in general). I had a fellow coach last year tell one of his players to break an opponent’s arm because he didn’t like the way she (a 10-year-old girl) was playing defense. I wish that kind of thing were really all that isolated and I was being guilty of my habit of hyperbole. We (myself included) need to quit calling for people to be fired. We need to quit yelling at each other about our relative failings as coaches or school board members or teachers or Presidents. And celebrate what we’ve done right.
I am sorry I mocked you in my earlier post – that hit a nerve and I ought not have done that.
Pretty sure this horse is now flatlined. DNR order is in place.

I take it back, ItIsTime. Instead of apologizing, you've just gotten angrier.
The offer I extended to buy you a beer. Rescinded. I know that was just yesterday, but you’ve had 24 hours to get over being cranky. Blorange has knowledge, and you have…. vehemence. Try directing it in a positive way.
Maybe GlassHalfFull can be diplomatic with snarly types, but I can’t. meh.

Blorange...
i know what your saying, i always have understood what you’ve been saying. Players make mistakes, and coaches should not get blamed if a player drops a pass or bits on a pump fake once in a while. Thats what your saying right?
'Trust me, i can protect myself. I'm a Boise State Broncos Football fan.'
USAFBronco...
I said all the coaching is bad? Lets see you pull up all my comments that claim that.
'Trust me, i can protect myself. I'm a Boise State Broncos Football fan.'
BoiseBlues...
i don’t know about you. But i hate when people put words in my mouth. But why you, of all people are telling me this? When you do the same thing.
'Trust me, i can protect myself. I'm a Boise State Broncos Football fan.'
don't recall putting words into your mouth...but I do recall offering to buy you a beer for said mouth.
But then I took back my offer, because you continued being snarly.
As I have said before, I have the memory of a gnat. If I did try to"put words" in your mouth I am sorry. I HATE it when people do that to me. Along the same vein of hatred as being told what to do. Doesn’t sit well. I really don’t believe, though, that I ever called anyone a dipstick, said their panties were in a bunch, nor asked about their friends…and I sure as h*** didn’t use the term “doucher”. ahem..let me calm down.
ItIsTime…if you choose to join me for a beer at the tailgate, I will still buy. Please bring your usually friendly self.

Your right,
you dont call people “Bad Names”. You call them “Nicer Names”. Snarly? What am I, a dog? A violent person? Also, you say Im capable of spraying “Venom”? Go look threw my comments. And read how people describe me as being someone not in the “right mind” or “lost touch” and having “hallucinogenic dreams” because I say we could go independent if we had the money. I give out statistics and facts to plead my case. But the more I do the bigger idiot or insane person I am. Yea, they don’t call me those exact words or call me what I call them. But in a way, they’re doing just as bad. It happens on hear all the time. USAFBronco just gave an example of that. If i dont agree with the regulars of the OBNUG community, i get singled out for saying something you think is a sin. When its my opinion. And i even back it up with stats or facts. Ive been wrong sometimes, but ive also admitted me being wrong right after i was, and never forced it. You guys sit here and tell me to calm cool down when your the ones bringing the heat to me. you can ask all my friends, and trust me, I have lots of them. They’ll tell you I’m too nice. That it bugs them. But they will also tell you that I will defend myself at all costs. And trust me, That is the only thing I’m doing.
And about that drink? I would have loved to. But for some reason. I feel like I’ll always be the angry one regardless what I do to show otherwise. Which is wired, cause when I show up at the bar to meet my friends, I’m the one they’re most excited to see, cause I’m fun and always drama free. Go figure huh?
'Trust me, i can protect myself. I'm a Boise State Broncos Football fan.'
vehemence, in my dictionary is "intensity"...not venom. Did I say that somewhere else?
and I’ve referred to myself as snarly more than once. But you are certainly correct about everyone being testy (yes, I’m putting words in your mouth, and maybe that isn’t what you mean by “bringing heat”)
It’s odd that we have two disagreements going on at once, on two different threads. I thought we were usually a congenial bunch.
Really, the offer for the conciliatory brew is still very much out there. We all need some levity, and drama-free would be a welcome addition. Hope to see you there.
"Grateful to the friends and the circumstances that enabled me to be a Bronco. I'm just glad I lived to see these days." SeniorChief
All I'm saying
Is first you were strictly just talking about how much you didn’t like pease, but since then it’s spread to now complaining about our defensive secondary and how that was coaching’s fault. You just seem like an angry little man to me, who doesn’t take criticism or differing opinions very well, refuses to admit when he might be wrong or off base, and seems to enjoy augment just for argument’s sake.
by USAFBronco on Jan 29, 2012 4:16 PM PST via mobile up reply actions
No USAFBronco...
you were not saying that. You were saying that i said all the coaching is bad. You put words in my mouth. And you expect me not to get mad, especially when they make me look bad. Now that you can’t prove that, you make accusations about me not being able to refuse when i’m wrong. Going off subject just so you can win the argument. Now go pull up any comments where i was wrong.
Your comment and response is the perfect example of what i’ve been saying. ‘Cant take criticism or differing of opinion very well,’? Im the one who stated anything first. You people are the ones responding.
'Trust me, i can protect myself. I'm a Boise State Broncos Football fan.'
Let me switch that.
You change the subject to make yourself look better and make me look like the bad guy.
'Trust me, i can protect myself. I'm a Boise State Broncos Football fan.'
Yah
You’re like arguing with my teenage sister, or maybe even my 6 year old daughter. It’s just pointless, chill out bud and stop being so angry. That is all

Recruiting?
He definitely has some skins on the wall. What kind of an asset will he be in recruiting? Sounds like he has the personality for it. I hope his time in Tampa creates a pipeline down there.

Gee, bb, bluNorange, and beloved fellow Nuggies,
Can the tailgate come soon enough? I think we all need to have some drinks and rediscover our affection for each other and The Cause. Or can we start playing football again? Something to work off all the testosterone and anger and soothe all the savage breasts we’re seeing on OBNUG. Is it a phase of the moon? I know:

Common misconception about the spelling and, therefore, the meaning. I’ve got a lot of burrs under my saddle, such as:
“Podium,” when they mean “lectern.” (You STAND on a podium. The root of the word is “pod,” or “foot.” You stand BEHIND a lectern to deliver your speech. Lecterns are often mounted on podiums-podia?-which is probably where the confusion arose. Even professional journalists of national stature screw this one up.)
“Prodigal,” when they mean “wandering.” (A prodigal is a wastrel.)
“Motley,” when they mean “ragged” or “unkempt.” (Motley means “colorful.”)
Et cetera.
That’s another: “Ect.” when they mean “Etc.”
