Chip Kelly

Rumors wild that Chip Kelly leaving Oregon to go to NFL Bucs. Oregon to focus on CP. ATQ has over 800 posts. Rumors of serious discussions, to be finalized in 24 hours, confirmed by Register Guard and Portland's KGW. Ducks to also focus on Gary P of TCU. Is this the dream job Coach P has been waiting for. Money certainly won't be an issue. And, he was an assistant at U of O under Bellotti for almost five years. So more strange coaching news.

This content was not created by OBNUG and therefore may not meet our standards. On the contrary, it probably exceeds them.

Great acheivements are acheived from great challenges.

I believe Coach Pete is building a program at BSU that reflects his ideology, as great coaches have done before him. I also believe that BSU has given him the freedom to do it his way. He has truly created an environment that turns good players into great players, and good people. From what I’ve seen, the recruiters seem to go after just under the radar 3+ish players for a reason. I think their on to something. At all the so called “big boy” schools where they get all those 4 & 5star, ESPN 150 players, it comes with a price, the wrong attitude. Pete doesn’t want a bunch of hard to coach pre-madonnas, and he’ll get plenty of those at Oregon. or any other pre-madonna saturated school.
If you go to all those 4-5 star players uncommitted list, you see a lot of Fresno St’s, Louisiana Techs, Kansas’s Cal, ect…but you don’t see BSU. Chris has a really great formula, and the longer he works it, the better and easier it will become for him & the program as a whole.
IMO, I don’t see Coach Pete leaving, ever. Just like Bear, Bowden, Joe, Woody, & Bo, this program defines him, and us fans never seriously question his strategy. Why would he leave total success in his hand, for a question mark in the bush? It doesn’t make any since.
Just like Joe took a small cowtown college to a big time money making dynasty, which paid him more than he ever needed, so can Coach Pete ride this runaway train we all know as Bronco Nation to college football glory. IMHO we’re already there.

Couldn't have said it better myself!!! Great post!

And just a small side note, it’s Prima Donna…not Pre-Madonna. :D

Just sayin’

I didn't do it!

Don’t look at me. (but I do love the visual of pre-Madonna)

So, what is post-Madonna?

Is that what Guy Ritchie is now?

Well, since pre-Madonna would have been 70's Rock & Disco,

I’m going to go out on the limb here and say, post-Madonna would include Trance techno(which my son is well known for in the Portland area) & alternative country, which has greatly expanded its youth fan base, albeit irking off the old schoolers.

Another reference example;

Pre-Madonna Marilyn Manson

Post-Madonna Marilyn Manson

Busted......

See, this is what happens when I get tired, and hit spell check to much, and didn’t catch my major munson’d, brain freeze, total lack of literacy, and general inability to grasp the English language, uh oh, redundant. In short, there was no red squiggly lines to save my butt.
And to make matters worse, when I wrote my ridiculous pathetic excuse earlier, I previewed it, then forgot to hit post. AAAHHG!
Commenting at OBNUG is kind of like taking a writing class. Its helping me get back a lot of forgotten written communication skills, lost during decades of building things with my hands. I’m sure it shows, but other than brief e-mails, I’ve only been interacting/blogging with others on the computer for 6 months.
I really appreciate all your input, good or bad, harsh or nice, sarcastic or underhanded, ah oh, redundant again. Anyway thanks.

This is good

As one who has made a living with the English language, it’s encouraging to me to witness growth in people’s communication skills. I fear that, with the advent of tweeting and text messaging and their inherent abbreviated language, we are losing the art of effective writing.

Trying to sort through stilted text to find the kernal of thought is sometimes challenging (as bb alluded to on another thread). Words are powerful, and contain the ability to sway thought. I’m chagrined to observe that so few people seem to realize that.

In advising those who aspire to good writing, I tell them to practice, practice, practice. One can’t be a good athlete, a good pianist, a good cook, without putting in repetitious time, over and over again. If OBNUG works as a practice ground for you, I’m certainly okay with that. Keep it up!

By the way, I never rely on the crutch of a machine’s spell checker chequer Czecher. The best spell checker is the one between your ears.

This could be the one job...

But is this at all like the Carrol to the Seahawks gig with the coach knowing that there would be some punishment coming down the line? With the recruiting issue, that I believe was linked to Kelly… Also, Kelly to the Bucs is interesting as the local Tampa Stations are all reporting that they are waiting for the games today to end so that they can talk to some coordinators currently still playing. The word tot he press is they want a guy with NFL coaching experience.

by AdaminFL on Jan 22, 2012 7:47 PM PST reply actions

I think if Kelly bolts it is b/c there's trouble brewing beneath the surface in Eugene.

His program is right at the edge of elite, with forward momentum and stockpiling recruiting classes. He’s within grasp of a NC right now. I don’t think he leaves unless there’s something in the wind.

Because of that, I don’t think Pete, or any other coach in a good position currently, takes the job at Eugene.

Logistically, it would be an easy move. Bigger school, better recruits, more money, same geographical area, travel distance of any specialists needed in Boise. But atmosphere it is a completely different city, culture, and fanbase. U of O is an animal house.

No trouble.

Most of the “experts” don’t believe the sanctions will come to much. The more likely reason is that Kelly doesn’t like the ancillary stuff like recruiting and glad-handing donors. He’d rather simply analyze tape and coach on the field. And if your goal is to coach in the NFL, you get while the gettin’ is good.

I hate Oregon with a passion

All of the Oregon players would go into shock being tamed from the cockiest players on the planet to being under Pete’s disciplined rule. I don’t think I could handle seeing him in anything but blue and orange.

I say it all the time on the blogs of teams thinking they will get Pete...

Everyone thinks paycheck, prestige, recruits! But they don’t consider the value one attaches to something when they’ve built their own house from the ground up. Especially when all indicators are that this house you’ve built will soon be just as nice as the top level neighborhoods.

If I had the money to buy a 1967 Corvette, I’d do it. At the same time, if I had the skills to rebuild a 1967 Corvette and do any engine modifications I wanted to it, I would appreciate it far more.

That’s what Pete has here…he has designed this himself and he has more freedom of movement in this city and rule over how the program is run than the vast majority of universities in the country.

One has to not fear Change, if Pete goes we wish him the best, I doubt he will though.

No Way!!

I don’t think this is going to be a possibility. Yes, Peterson was at Oregon for a while, but that’s exactly the thing that makes him not want to go back. Every time he turns down a job he cites the fact that his kids are happy and that they live in a good community. Eugene has a heavy drug culture. Having lived there myself (and I swore I would never step foot in that godforsaken crap hole again) I can testify to the fact that it is not a place I would want to raise children. Pete’s family is to important to him.

And to the duck fan: What behavior problems since blount???!!?!?!?!?!? How about Massoli and company stealing things and smoking the cron? Or the 110 mph linebacker that likes to smoke the cron? Or the Darron “I don’t smoke the cron, I just hang out with everybody else on the team that does” Thomas. Or the field goal kicker that gets in bar fights? Do I need to go on? I can’t believe you are brave enough to post here knowing that your beloved ducks aren’t on the same level of football excellence! Go now in shame….

Oh yeah, Eugene is right up there with Camden and the Compton.

by Roj on Jan 22, 2012 10:36 PM PST reply actions

I agree. I don't think its all thats its cracked up to be.

Pete is King in Boise. If he wants something, he gets it pretty fast. Why would he leave a cush a job where he rules everything to go to a job where he will be limited and chastized by donors and fans for any little thing that goes wrong. It will be tough to recruit 2 and 3 star players, players he likes, when OU is so used to having 4+ star recruits all the time. I don’t think he would like it very much.

by adizzle5000 on Jan 23, 2012 12:35 AM PST up reply actions

Rec'd on that.

Its not like Coach Pete couldn’t improve a 4 or 5star player, not a problem, if the kid doesn’t show up feeling entitled. But you can’t tell me,that he isn’t going to have a fat head, when some high school kid that’s getting offers from traditional AQ powers like USC, Alabama, Notre Dame, OU, and Texas, and is being told by everybody that he can write his own ticket.
Kids are easily swayed. Oh look, Alabama won the National Championship, I wanna go there, oh wait, ESPN just picked USC to knock off Bama, I wanna go there, oh wait, Meyers predicts they’ll win it all in 2 years after I red shirt, cool I’ll go there. Oh wait? Commit, decommit, commit, decommit. That word doesn’t mean squat, to a bunch of fat heads. They’ll all go to the NFL in 2 years anyway. Coach Pete bypasses all that crap.
