Wake up, Bronco Nation: Boise State football links and things, 1-19-12
Marcel Yates ready for challenge in SEC
Cripe has a nice story on Yates who was hired as the defensive backs coach and co-defensive coordinator for Texas A&M under new coach Kevin Sumlin. Yates had nothing but great things to say about Boise State but his effect on and off the field will be sorely missed.
Boise State 2013 recruit Joey Martarano will have to choose between baseball and football
The Fruitland junior says that he is committed to football but his play this spring and summer could change that. He plays quarterback and middle linebacker for Fruitland but has been recruited to possibly play an outside linebacker/defensive end hybrid role like Shea McClellin. Curious if Coach Pete would allow him to pursue baseball along with football if he was drafted?
Deadspin acquires all emails between Auburn team spokesman and media during 2010 football season
This is fascinating. There are no bombshells about Cam Newton, but it's so interesting to see how the media would kiss the butt of the school in order to get some access or air time. Also, Joe Schad emails exactly how I would have expected.

Jonathan Smith hired listed as an impact coordinator/assistant coach hire

Did someone say cake?
I sure hope it’s an icecream cake from Dairy Queen.

Don’t people kind of find it ironic that when coaches leave, if there is a good relationship with the previous staff, they have to convince already committed recruits to stay with their committment? Yes, i know each situation is different, blah, blah, blah, but it is kind of funny to me that some recruits require even more convincing after the fact.
My QB has an AWARD named after him. How about yours?!

Yeah
It’s definitely a sticky situation. I feel bad that Yates had to leave to follow his job, but I guess that’s eventually going to happen when there is little movement at the top.
for sure.
overall, i look at it as a great compliment. i just find it humorous is all.
i do appreciate Choate isn’t going to recruit Boise State kids for WSU. And, i guess, the fact that A&M mostly sticks to Texas and Louisianna is a positive as well.

Try this ice cream cake, Grind

Not sure how often you guys comb the previous postings.
But on the recruiting front Trevor Stevens does have an offer from BSU but he’s also got one from everyone else. I guess he wasn’t on the that initial list because it doesn’t seem likely he’s going to BSU?
oh well.

Regarding Joey Martarano
I was under the impression that Coach Pete would not allow two sport athletes on the team. Either you’re all football or he’s not interested.
that's kind of what i had heard before as well.
i’m actually more shocked when they do choose football over baseball. but Kaepernick and Wilson did even though they were drafted in MLB and all that.
