Boise State's 2012 recruiting class: Shane Rhodes, future Devin Hester
Part Wes Welker, part Devin Hester, part Williow extra, Shane Rhodes has the potential for a special, unique career with Boise State. He was the rare recruit to be recruited for his skills on special teams as a returner and game changer, and judging by the first 30 seconds of the above video, that was a good decision by the Bronco coaches. I broke an ankle just watching.
Of course, a talent like Rhodes will find the field in other ways, too, as a slot receiver and in special "5'7" and under" packages (with Chris Potter and an academically ineligible David Augusto). If Rhodes were six inches taller, he would have likely been fielding offers from all of Texas's big schools. As it turns out, the Broncos got themselves a steal.
More details on Shane Rhodes after the jump ...
Signing Day arrives February 1. Until then, we're running down the full list of verbal commitments so you can impress your friends with your Bronco know-how.

Other offers: Kansas State, Louisiana-Lafayette
Other Boise State players from the area: Quaylon Ewing-Burton, D.J. Harper, Brenel Myers, Dextrell Simmons
Boise State player most likely to be mistaken for: a Vinny Perretta - Chris Carr hybrid, with ecoBoost
Future nickname: Rhodes Warrior, Roadie's, Rhodes Scholar
Where he fits on the depth chart: KR / PR / slot WR
Rhodes' first taste of playing time figures to come on special teams as a returner. Chances are you won't burn a redshirt on a returner, but Chris Petersen will play a freshman if he's ready to play. Still, with Mitch Burroughs, D.J. Harper, Drew Wright, Dallas Burroughs, Ebo Makinde, Jerrell Gavins, and others capable of returning kicks in the meantime, expect Rhodes to join the fray in 2013 and make his impact then.
Dustin Lapray scouting report:
Moves like a jitterbug across the waters of the soul ... Has soft hands, like a cherubim ... Lacks bellow ... Reminds me of a young Dave Meggett high on life ... Beautiful open field moves, which reminds of this one time I was sitting in an open field birdwatching barefoot ... Courageous, inventive, passionate, artsy, human ...

I can only assume that he'll get the bulk of the snaps as a PR.
(i’m alluding to the fact that teams don’t score on BSU often and they have to punt so much because the defense is awesome. and, yes, I am using selective information and blocking out the fact he could be used in the slot.)
My QB has an AWARD named after him. How about yours?!

Rec'd for Dustin Lapray's report!

The battle for hierarchy is more intense the lower the class.
Suggested future nickname 'Slippery Rhodes"
He reminds me of that kid in grade school that nobody could ever catch when we were playing ‘keep away’.

Brings to mind....
As a Bronco fan in SW Washington married to a Duck alumni, I watched a lot of the Ducks. If this guy can bring a taste of what freshman DeAnthony Thomas brought to the Ducks (he lists 5’9" 170) then we have a lot to look forward to.
That was a bit of a surprise to me...
Usually return guys (especially ones that small) are a bit quicker than 4.6. I am sure they can add some speed with strength and conditioning… it will be interesting to see what he is running when he hits the field.

Nice!!!
This kid can stop n’ go and juke like crazy. And yes he does need to work on that speed. You could tell he’s really not that fast. But his moves will for sure get him some extra yards. He should be fine thou. I’m sure he’s one that will redshirt this year. Just cause of strength and condition purposes. Can’t wait to see him suited up and ready to go.

Chuckle...
I was thinking perhaps like Swayze’s place… Rips out some throats… With his cleats (that’s the problem with all metaphors – they all break down eventually – some faster than others.)

I wonder if he'll be more receptive of the nickname "Peanut' ...
Because he has some sort of oil going for him to slip tackles like that … WOW!!!
