Wake up, Bronco Nation: Boise State football links and things, 1-10-12
An unsatisfying end to and unsatisfying season of college football
I think that about sums it up after that dreadful game last night. Stewart Mandel makes some interesting points about how good Alabama is, but about how it just doesn't feel right. It feels like there should be another step, another test for an elite defense that was never truly tested by an elite offense. It seems like last night left us with more questions than answers and that probably sums up the whole season. It's just sad that Kellen Moore's final season had to coincide with 2011.
Matt Miller named to the FWAA Freshman All-American Team
The teams is consisted of true freshmen and red shirt freshman and is chosen by 11 members. Miller joins USC's Marquise Lee and Clemson's Sammy Watkins. Good to see Miller get some recognition for his outstanding play in his rookie year. It already feels like his career is going to flash before my eyes.
Shea McClellin receives an invite to play in the Senior Bowl
McClellin joins Kellen Moore, Doug Martin, Billy Winn and George Iloka to make 5 Broncos playing in the game this year. That doubles the amount all time of Boise State players that have ever played in the game.
Governor Butch Otter took his staff met with Coach Pete last summer
It was part of a retreat and was dubbed "Coach Pete Motivational Speech". It was focused on excelling with limited resources and I would love to hear what Coach Pete had to say. Does anyone have a webcast of the speech or a recording they'd love to share? I could use some motivation this morning as this is the first day of a long college football off season.

They look like WAC and MWC fans playing against the Broncos.
The only thing the BCS has to fear is fear itself and Blue is the color of fear.

I love the the couple in the middle of the shot.
She’s all smiles, and her guy has the gaze of Ted Bundy, hand around the throat and everything.
"Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth." - Mike Tyson
Good catch
I like the guy trying to get the bartender’s attention for four shots just for himself to dull the pain.
The battle for hierarchy is more intense the lower the class.
Oh. I thought she was a mutant
With another head growing out of the right side of her head and a hand growing on her chest. You know, like those weird things you see on South Park.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they, too, have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexations to the spirit.

I really wanted to care...
And be excited about the Bowl season, simply because I love college football… However, the reality really hit home for me this year, becasue of all the postureing as to who is selected to which bowls and why, coupled with the whole move to the big East upcoming, that these games are all exhibitions. They are the general equalivalnt of the NFL preseason. These games don’t count, and really all they are an additional month to be allowed to practice for next year. They don’t determine anything…As the only thing that matters would be the actual season. There really is NO national NCAA football champion, only the BCS champ, which a few bowls got together and decided to name one of the teams that the always bring in as their Champ. In reality, even the plus one model will continue to laugh in the face of the regular season as winners of regualr season conferences don’t get anything. Just the four teams that the big boys decide should be there, not the ones who won their conference. In a realm where they want to maintain the integrity of the regular season, we have a BCS champion that didn’t even make it to their Conference Championship Game, let alone win it. Sure this season BSU is in the same boat, TCU would have represented the MWC. I love College Football, even more than the pros, but this feels like we are lead down a prime rosed path, excited for the next game, and the expectation that we could win it all… Well I think that if the current method is kept, “It All” will have to mean that we were the best team in our 8 to 16 team conference, becasue there really is no “It All” in College football.

What is the record for number of players in the Senior Bowl from one team?
5 seems like a really big number!
Boise State football is akin to molten lava. You can see it and perhaps run from it, but you can't stop it.
wikipedia says ten. Alabama holds the record.
but knowing the Tide, I’d guess they really only had four and just claimed all the seniors that were from Alabama or had been there before.

Mr. Kroes, I think you're great, but I take exception with the following:
I could use some motivation this morning as this is the first day of a long college football off season.
The offseason does not start today…it started the day after the Maaco Bowl as far as I’m concerned. Plus, after reading AdaminFL’s comment above, I’m thinking that’s even a stretch. Either way, I really have felt the 2011 CFB year has been in the rearview for awhile now. Here’s to hoping that the changes to the BCS actually make a difference (not holding my breath though).

At least I can smile about McClellin and Miller.

+1 would have worked for me,
but a 8 team playoff would have settled everything. Alabama barely lost at home, hitting on all 8 cylinders. BSU beat themselves at home barely, hitting only on 7 cylinders. If we started a playoff Christmas week, with the bowls being the semi’s, the Broncos would have been the most balanced team in it. So, who knows? We don’t. Thanks BCS, your swell!
If you ever wanted to see Boise St play...may be a good chance. Love em or Hate em, they are always interesting; and now, no matter where you live, "They're Coming To Your City"
