Boise, ID -
Nike recently unveiled their new line-up of Boise State Pro Combat uniforms and the reception by fans has been warm to say the least. "Awesome," "Love them!" "AMAZING!" and "OMG OMG OMG!!!! I'm not even a teenage girl, but OMG!!! I have to go to this game! I wanna break something right now...lamp smash of joy!" are some of the reactions on Boise States best Internet fan site, One Bronco Nation Under God.
The other members of the Mountain West Conference, however, are not as receptive and there is talk of San Diego State President Elliot Hirshman proposing a ban on the new uniforms at the behest of SDSU head football coach Rocky Long. When asked for a comment Coach Long stated, "I think they ought to get rid of those white uniforms. I think it's unfair," said Long, the former New Mexico coach who is in his first season as the Aztec's head coach. When asked to expand, Long said, "it takes the visiting team a quarter or two to get used to that different helmet." Long said players "track the ball differently" against the white uniforms and helmet, particularly since Boise State traditionally wears all-blue uniforms on the blue turf.
